I love using the hologram, it works very well when you wanna trick people. I agree with this analysis, the Battlefield series has always seemed very robotic to me.
So I've only played about 30 minutes into the game, and I know that's barely scratching the surface, but I haven't quite got as hooked as I have with the other games. All three other games, had me from the start, but this one not so much. And for me I think a number of things are contributing to that feeling... For one the default weapon is the battle rife...stupid, stupid weapon. And it makes me wonder if you can customize all your armor, why not your weapons too. Seems like it would add more depth to your character and more challenges to the campaign if you could choose the default weapon. No Cortana. IMO, I think she was more important to the franchise than even Master Chief. I think the Chief's humanity is brought to the surface through her. Without Cortana, the chief is just another grunt. It's like if Gears didn't have Dom, Baird, Cole, Hoffman and Anya and it was just Marcus. I miss that voice in my head. That epic feeling is so far missing. Granted I'm only 30 minutes into the game, but I didn't have that problem with any of the others. I was hooked from the getgo. The commercial spot could have made for a good cutscene to start the game and give some backstory. The hype wasn't there for me. Halo 3 multiplayer turned me off to the franchise a little bit, which ODST only exacerbated (I want to play the game but I cannot justify dropping so much for a short campaign experience). The commercial spots have been lacking as well. The first teaser was awesome. The first trailer sucked. The live action trailer was pretty good, but felt awkward at times. None of them compare to the spots for Halo 3. And then it's been awhile since I've played Halo, I think I've just gotten used to Gears and COD. I've yet to touch multiplayer and usually don't until I finish the campaign. And again I'm only thirty minutes in...but it hasn't hooked me yet...I'm hoping it will though. For me...Halo 2 had the best multiplayer (BR just edged the pistol in Halo as my favorite weapon), Halo 3 had the best campaign and Halo 1 has the fondest memories. Obviously too early to tell for Reach.
Good lord, if I said that it is clearly not what I meant, all things being equal I prefer a PC based one, because you can have much more game play elements in them. I would be happy to show you why 18 people on a map works but on a small map....but very limited gameplay options. No worries though...we both agree that Halo Reach is a danged fine game. DD
I think the big difference between you and I is that you feel vehicles add to gameplay; I think in a FPS they detract from it. Unless they're like modern warfare, where they're primarily unmanned and they aren't always there.
No love for Team Fortress 2? And I'm gonna have to disagree with you and say that the Halo games are the best FPS titles to date.
i enjoy the lean function in pc gaming. I havent seen that in console gaming without having to sacrifice some other function. I do however love console gaming because of the limiting factor of one controller. Im poorish, so pc gaming has always favored the "well endowed."
I disagree with you big time there. The vehicles in halo add a ton of depth to the game. Whats better than being on a huge map where you can pilot a Banshee. I love the ghost because it's so versatile, but I don't believe it gives me an advantage. There are more than enough weapons and items used to stop the vehicles. All in all having different aspects such as being able to pilot vehicles, become invisible or send out a hologram make Halo unique (and better IMO) than other FPS.
To put it simply; there's a reason why there are no vehicles in the Arena in Reach or any other tournament settings worth playing.
Vehicles are very fun, and they are in games because people like them. Unreal Tournament hoverboard ftw!
Exactly, varied gameplay, forcing guys to do stuff they are not used to, anyone can get good at one style and feel good about themselves dominating, at that style etc. But to me, being changeable and multiskilled is way more fun. In BC2, there are maps that Choppers dominate, until I learned how to trace them and shoot em down...now......I switch classes when the chopper is up...and boom goes the dynamite. DD
Any beaten the game on the hardest level setting? I beat it last night on normal. I know in past games there are additional cinamatic clips at the end when you beat it on legendary, are there for this game?
I hate it when vehicles are involved in online play, especially FPSs. It is usually a huge downside. I have not boughten games because I have found out that they include vehicles.
Vehicles are awesome, like someone mentioned I remember some of the badass stuff they used to put in UT. So much fun.
Just play the maps without the vehicles then........I like them because the maps are bigger and the gameplay is varied instead of stale. DD
Vehicles are very noob friendly and takes a lot of skill out of the game most of the time, particularly in the battlefield franchise imo. I have not come across any vehicles in this game, in fact, I have only come across maybe 4 maps at all in this game. How many are there supposed to be? I also do not like larger maps. That is something MW2 screwed up on. Cod 4 (the all-time best fps imo) has perfect, small maps, and the experience has never been beaten.
It's definitely gratifying taking down a vehicle ...I usually find myself gravitating away from them...but I do love getting a hold of a rocket launcher a blowing a banshee out of the sky. They just add a nice dimension to the experience.
Have only been playing campaign on Legendary with my wife. I'm fairly disappointed by it so far(We just finished the 4th mission). The Elites are unreal. I shot one with two rockets and he lived, I stuck another one and he lived. They move so freaking fast. Not sure how I am going to beat this by myself on Legendary.
Exactly, it is not just about who sees the other one first and has the better camping spot....or is a better twitch player. It takes thought, and skill...and cunning. DD
I'm playing on Legendary, but didn't have much time yesterday, and only got past the first level the day before when I got the game. Legendary is tough, but that's to be expected in Halo games. As far as endings go, there is not supposed to be an additional cinematic clip at the end of Legendary, as Bungie said they want the last image to be the same for everyone, and most critics say it's pretty perfect in the way it sets up the events of Halo 1. Don't know what it is yet, but I'll find out once I beat the game on Legendary.
Yeah, it levels the playing field for people who aren't good. Anyway, I don't have an issue with vehicles per se. They're fun in the non-competitive areas. However if you're trying to tell me they require skill you're kidding yourself. They take practice to use (and some people can be quite masterful at driving/flying), but they dumb down games for lesser skilled players. That's why in Reach there's playlists (NON-competitive ones) for people who like vehicles, and the Arena does not have them. There's something for everyone. However, please don't try and tell me it requires skill for someone to use a tank to kill 3 people on the ground in one shot.
