My best buy says they'll get fifteen right before close tonight (not in Houston). Too bad I work till eleven. I will have to wait for Amazon to come through.
Received my Google play order yesterday (ordered on July 25th). Love this little gadget. Works like a charm, and can't wait to see what the dev community does with it.
Got mine from Amazon last week. Setup was easy and the device works great for me on my wireless-N network. Both Netflix and Youtube worked very well. Haven't tried the Chrome tab streaming yet. For those folks who have dual-band wireless routers, be aware that the Chromecast only works on the 2.4 GHz band (it doesn't work on the lower-interference 5 GHz band).
It's already crippleware... So typical of Google. http://techcrunch.com/2013/08/26/google-just-killed-the-best-thing-about-the-chromecast-for-now/
Thanks! I just ordered one. Note that the Express shipping is Free. It defaults to Standard shipping so change that and you'll get it one day sooner.
Just got mine today and the chrome tab and netflix makes it a win for me. Can I stream my pictures on my phone to this?
I just bought a second one. Haven't even gotten the first one yet but I figure at $13 each, it's a small risk.
Best Buy seems to have them in stock at physical locations. Probably the easiest way to nab one now. Highly recommend it. Just watched Star Trek into darkness through Google Play Movies and it was glorious on my 50 inch Samsung. Phone acting as a remote is what makes this a stand out for me. Set up literally took 3 minutes. It took about 5 seconds to buffer Star Trek in full 1080p.
It acts as remote and source, right? Also, I thought it would only do 720p to the TV? Is that right? Or can it do 1080p?
For tab projecting, it does 720p. Netflix and other apps such as Google Play Movies can do full 1080p.
I have been using it for a few weeks now and love it. The beauty of it is how quickly I can go from wanting to watch something on my TV to actually watching it. The device is always ready and the method that you use for streaming is flawless. The added benefit of being able to multitask without interrupting the stream cannot be overstated. My parents are not tech savvy and even they were able to get the hang of it. They use it primarily to watch pakistani soap operas on youtube, through their tablet. Cool little device
its OK, youtube/netflix are fine, however chrome tab casting is mostly miss, either lag with video, no audio at all and only video. A shame. hopefully they work out the bugs.
One of the things that is annoying about Google is so much of what they introduce is unfinished and early adopters are really just beta testers. I don't mind with Chromecast because it only cost $11 with the Netflix discount. You can be pretty sure a lot of software improvements will be made gradually over time. No telling what this thing will do in a few months. In particular, this thing will completely rule my TV monitor when tab casting starts working well.

That's rad, I might need to put cyanogen on my HTC one. I was planning on going stock android, but I did like cyanogen (other than there's wayyy too many options for one person to play with).
