I know that there are two other threads in other subforums (GARM and Deals), but none really meant for discussion of the Chromecast itself. Link In a nutshell, it's an OS independent streaming device. EDIT 7/25/13 5:00CST: Netflix addon pulled due to overwhelming demand.
I saw that. With a 2% market penetration, I don't think it's a big priority for any software publishers. If the lumia 520/521 sell like I think they're going to, it won't be long before you see it supported.
About to buy 5 for all of my TV's but I thought Best Buy was supposed to have these in store by Saturday? The link says "ships in 3-4 weeks". That tooooo long!
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=238687&page=5 Was being discussed here, though with the popularity of this thing, it deserves its own thread. I kind of wanted to get mine at a Best Buy store since I know my local Best Buy has it in stock right now, but I can't cancel my Play Store order any longer so I'll have to wait.
How similar is this to the failed $250.00 Nexus Q from last year? At $35.00 + the Netfix 3 months it may as well be free. Also, where does this leave Google TV?
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olstemp...mode&ci_src=11138&ref=39&loc=01&CJPID=3160356 Using that link, you check inventory for your local BestBuy. A lot of the Houston stores don't seem to have it in stock in the store. For me in Chicago, theres a few stores here that have it in stock right now. Spoiler I think it's pretty similar to the Nexus Q. The price point is major obviously, so I think even if it flops, I don't think it'll be that bad. Has a lot of potential depending on what developers are able to do with the API. Low risk, high reward. I'm asking the same thing regarding Google TV. I'm a Google TV owner myself, and I'm hoping that this might be a good replacement to it. If the Xbox One with it's media/TV capabilities and Chromecast with it's video streaming capabilities work out, I'll have no need for Google TV. I haven't seen them put enough time into Google TV, I just think they should do away with it and produce more of these and build on this. I know I read something about them working with manufacturers to make similar dongles for the future.
Great price.. but it's too late for me.... Just bought a brand new TV and it seems that every new model these days has wifi with all the netflix, hulu, youtube apps built in to the TV. But it's a great deal as long as your current TV is holding up.
Excellent. I'll wait until the traffic dies down and take the 10 minute drive to the store in Katy tonight.
I don't think you get the point of Chromecast. It's a "I just saw something really cool on my phone and I want to show it on the TV right now" device. You can literally just send a Chrome tab to the TV. Even if you have a smart TV, getting this is a no-brainer.
Still waiting for reviews on it. I'm sure it'll handle the major streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Amazon Video, but I want it to mirror a Chrome website with Flash so I can stream . Some reports have said it can mirror a Chrome tab, but it's in beta at the moment. I could see them taking it away like they have with Flash on Android. Ideally, I'd want something that can mirror a laptop whether it's streaming content, web browser, or video files I have stored on my HDD. As far as I know, Roku is the closest thing to what I'm looking for minus the web browser.
Ordered one on Amazon but it's out of stock. I'm not sure when I'll get mine. Haven't received the Netflix promo code yet though for those of you wondering about that.
meh.. no thanks. If I can see it on my phone and it looks cool than I don't think I need to stop what everyone is watching just to put up a funny picture. I already have Youtube, Netflix, Hulu, etc. hooked up on the TV. Other than that, I like to keep my phone, laptop, and TV worlds separate. I'm not saying it's not great, because I think it is. But it's not for me as a Smart-TV owner.
I tried to make my tv smart prematurely with the Equiso stick - that was a giant waste of time and money as the thing is just not powerful enough to stream video. I'll probably wait on this device and see what others say first. It's tempting if it can stream video from the unofficial video hosting sites
I have this already, it's called a boxee/apple tv/google tv/internet on laptop/torrenting/youtube???? I already have uverse to watch cable programming.
If you're on the fence, just buy it from Best Buy. You can always return it. Conversely, I would put money on it being sold out everywhere in the next day or two so if you do change your mind, you'll be waiting.
So some Best Buy locations have already received their shipments and are selling it, but I have to wait a few weeks if I order thru the Play Store or Amazon? Why can't Google ever have their damn products ready to ship as soon as they announce it? They are so bad logistically.
