They plan to dump Jason Williams whose contract kills their chances of adding any more players. They will likely lose Earl Watson as well. It would be AWESOME if DS signed with us for the LLE, so we don't have to take any of Portland's ridiculous contracts.

I'm curious to know what Memphis would give up to talk a third team into taking JWill's contract off their hands. I'm guessing this potential deal could fall apart. Who leaks this stuff, anyway? It might just be Stoudemire's agent talking, to try to get Houston to up their trade offer or face having DS playing with a division rival.

I think someone here touched on something most of us aren't thinking about as a direct consequence of DS taking the LLE.

Basically, it would crowd our backcourt like crazy, meaning that re-signing Jon Barry wouldn't happen. It also means that we would HAVE to get rid of 1 or 2 more guards still somehow through trades or whatever, or otherwise we will have som really grumpy players on the bench this upcoming season, which spells disaster for team chemistry.

IMO, we need to get rid of Wesley AND another guard (Moochie, James, or Sura) if we want to be able to give playing time for those who would be playing behind DS and someone else (either Wesley or Sura at the SG). Assuming DS takes the LLE, we would have way too many guards on this team battling one another for playing time: James, Sura, Head, Moochie (on IL probably), Barry (if re-signed, which I think is critical in light of Padgett leaving, meaning that he is our only 3-point specialist, and the best interior passer to Yao), and even possibly Sponialous (sp?).

I think doing a SnT should be the Rockets' ONLY option with DS, while getting rid of some of our backcourt glut in the process.

At the same time, I would love for the Rockets to convince Portland to part with Derek Anderson, since if we add DS and trade especially Sura, we will be at a major height deficit when compared to some other backcourts in the league.

We need to get DS and DA from Portland, while hopefully sending them back their choice of Sura/James, Wesley, and another expiring contract like Moochie or Baker that would give them the desperate cap room they need for the future.

    Just my two cents.

When it all comes down too it,I think it's a question of whether DS wants to take that LLE and be a champion.1.7 and a title shot vs.4 mill. and punching the clock. When you've made the kind of money Damon's made in his career,2.3 mil shouldn't be much in the grand scheme of things. If he doesn't want to be here and let his agent play games, then forget it.There are plenty of value play veterans w/title aspirations that will fill the roles we need.

So that's what, 2 guards in the West? And which of our current PG's could stop those guys anyway?

If Damon doesn't sign here can we stop with the hating, I guess he doesn't want to win crap posts especially if he seems to be making three times what he will make here. These guys have a responsability to sign the best contracts for themselves, they can't play bball forever. And besides, its not like the Rockets are definite champion contenders till they get out of the first round. Signing anywhere is a gamble as far as winning is concerned. There are no guarantees.

I think we are championship contenders once the offseason is done. That said,DS isn't even at the top of my list, but at the LLE,he's a helluva deal. It's just business, not personal...exactly as it is for the player. The Rockets are dealing from a postion of strength,no need to sacrifice capspace when quality players will play here for less.Of course, lifestyle, location, etc. factor in,but for some who have made plenty of cheese...AND still have the hunger, then the ability to be an above average role player on a perrenial title contender,is too much to pass up.

Wesley,Sura,James, and Howard, along with our expiring contracts are tradeable assets.I figure when you combine this pool and our draft picks,CD has quite a bit to work with.
At guard,I think Head is going to be solid for many years, but we need a nice two now.

I hope a pick isn't what is keeping us from getting this deal done. 2006 is gonna be a weak draft, so a pick (especially one in the mid-late twenties) shouldnt be too much of a hassle.

Also, we better not take back DA, only Miles. I'd move Howard to do it, then I'd give whatever expirings we have left + picks to rescure PJ Brown from N.O. I'm sure he and Kurt Thomas would bring a lot more intensity to any Houston-Phoenix games just like the good ole NY-Miami days.

I wouldn't say Howard is a good tradable asset. He has a sizable contract that is gonna pay him til he is 36 and he probably won't be nearly as productive. He also had a major injury to end his season, not only that, they found a heart ailment which made things even worst.

I'm not saying that he won't have to balanced out by picks and/or players, but once a general consensus is reached on his heart,JH could be a component in a deal. The guy's servicibility cannot be questioned and eventually he'll come off somebody's books.

Damon might be going to the Grizz. The Big Memphis Rumor has Jason Williams in a 3 team trade. Miami is mentioned as one of the partners of the deal. I think Boston, Memphis and Miami are the players. Jason would go to Boston. Walker goes to Miami. If Memphis does not get Gary Payton or Damon Jones, then Memphis would need a point guard. That is where Mighty Mouse comes in. He can't mention it because it will happen after the three team trade is announced.

    Looks to me like this:

We have Stro making a committment to us, for the MLE, UNLESSSS a SnT can be worked out. Pretty much, if a SnT doesn't get worked out when FA's are allowed to sign, then he will take the MLE.

DS is waiting to see if we can get a SnT done with the Griz for Stro. If we can, then we still have the MLE, and we can offer DS up to the full MLE. If we have to pay Stro with the MLE, then we have to do a SnT with Portland to get DS.

So, you have 3 situations there: Stro via a SnT and DS with the MLE; Stro with the MLE and DS with a SnT; or Stro with the MLE and DS with either the LLE or sot here. And we can't do or know anything until FA's are allowed to sign contracts!

It's confusing, but it's my opinion. I never claimed to be right!!!

Based on recent comments, it's pretty rock solid Swift is signing an MLE contract on Tuesday. That case is closed. What happens with DS is completely unrelated. Rockets have offered the LLE but want to SnT to give DS more money (to satisfy him) but the Blazers will not cooperate. We are DS' first choice but he may not end up here. That is where we stand with Swift and DS.

I don't think it is feasable for Portland to do a sign and trade deal with Houston. If the Rox had any one of value that they would be willing to let go, Portland would pull the trigger in a heartbeat! This is a good thing... It just shows that the Rox are doing what they can to keep the core and chemistry of this team Together and Jelling! I hate we won't get "Mighty Mouse", he could have been the final piece for that "Ring Thing"!

watching the coverage of the softball game this weekend, I realized that Sura, Barry and Wesley have some good chemistry going - if you can't get this deal done with Spoon, then I don't see why you bother. I would imagine that the Blazers would love to get rid of patterson or Anderson and pck up a pick, but they are really in a finanical crunch, so I don't see them helping anyone out right now

Players can't exclusively sign their deals until Tuesday. Damon Stoudamire is in Houston, we all know any and all Rocket fans that have seen him asked him was he coming to Houston. He was being interviewed by a Houston reporter, what else is he going to say. I personally can't blame him, this probably is going to be his last contract. I can't quote this, but I read that Jason Williams and James Posey maybe headed to Miami for Eddie Jones. It also looks like Earl Watson is going to Miami to. Damon Jones seemed to be leaning toward Cleveland. That leaves Jaric, who may end up in Denver, an aging Payton, who is looking for a championship, but he lost a few steps. Sprewell who is a cancer when he is unhappy, and can't feed his children on 9 mil a year, so we know 1.8 mil is out the question. Michael Finley, I think they are going to trade him to the East, so these Western Conference teams can't get him. Allan Houston, his injury history and he seems to have a desire to stay on the East Coast. Barring a trade I think Barry is coming back, and Deke and I think Moochie and Charlie are going to get cut. I think probably trade deadline we may see something but I still got my fingers crossed!
