but they played one one one...what experience do they need for that? thats no excuse specially not even scoring one point? thats no excuses..but yeah thats not the full evaluation they do look at other aspects.
Don't worry guys, it's not like our scouts are blind. I entirely trust Morey & Friends to make the right decision.
This made me ... Shirley, you can't be serious... 7-6 Yao would destroy Hilton Armstrong... BEN WALLACE could not stop Yao before he came to the NBA, I saw it with my own two eyes...
I laugh at people who think the Rockets would take Hassan Whiteside. He's a huge project and way too raw and inexperienced to be a Morey pick.
Well these guys are still technically college players, so hilton armstrong should dominate them, he's an nba player
Yes, both Whiteside and Orton are touted for the stronger defensive than offensive game. I'm sure that's why they played one on one against one of the weaker players we had/have. Even though Armstrong is a scrub and gets no PT he's still in the NBA for a reason, these guys are just not NBA players yet. They'll have a ways to go before becoming pro ball players and that's just the process with rooks. Don't overreact to this and already start assuming bust.
Exactly my thoughts. Unless he is taken as part of a trade package, this guy is too raw. Not that we can't take and develop a player, but he wouldn't see the floor for two years. And then it will take another two years to see if he can "walk and chew gum at the same time" ... the good news is that Morey already knows the answer to that, hence the reason he won't be a Rocket. I'll give props to any team that takes him and he turns out to be a player, but after Stro Swift, Kwame Brown, Eddie Griffin ... you don't take that kind of player in the lottery.
This reminds me of when Brian Cook was dominating Battier, McGrady and Landry in the one on one video we saw earlier in the season.
A point that almost everyone misses is how many guys Morey drafts that are 4 year college players, or VERY close to being NBA ready. DD
Hakeem only played 3 years, leaving after his junior season. Maybe you were including his redshirt year. Olajuwon wasn't a very good offensive player coming out of college, but yes he still would have dominated Armstrong. How many high potential guys come into the NBA as huge projects work out? 10%? Maybe less.
Even if that could mean passing on the next Danny Granger, Anthony Randolph, Joe Johnson, or even Richard Jefferson. I know its tougher on big men but this guy is full of big men with tons of potential. This will be one of those drafts where you can see the best prospect turn into the biggest bust and the not so touted player turn into a borderline star. I hope these teams do they're homework cause a player like Hassan Whiteside could turn into the next Andrew Bogut this year or the next Darko Milicic of every year.
Yes but thats when he drafts late-first rounders or second rounders (where most of them are 4-year college players). In the lotto, you take high-reward risks, because your team sucks and you need help. But this isn't the case for the Rockets, so I think they will trade down.
It's a good thing you mentioned 3 SF and a SG on your potential list. I hope people don't fall in love with the idea that Morey HAS to draft a big man with our pick. There are so many in this draft that you could see Extreme talent in the SG and SF positions fall just because other teams fall in love with the Bigs. The Bigs also go from NBA Starter (Cousins) to Whiteside (Extreme Project) and it seems like it would be risky to just hope on a raw project. I hope Morey sees this and doesn't hesitate taking a great value pick. A great example is Xavier Henry. He's considered the best true SG coming out and could fall.
