Musk' success is built off the investments others made in his companies, and the reason for why they have continued to do that is because unlike pretty much the rest of them, his endeavours are to invent the future.

Compare this to Apple, Iphone 13 or whatever it is now, Microsoft? Office as a service, Amazon? cloud services and online walmart.

Most successful industrialists have been opportunists who took advantage of other people. Edison, Henry Ford, Jobs, etc... all built most of their success on good timing and recognizing opportunity.

Having a good idea isn't enough to succeed in business and part of brilliance in business is the ability to get that idea to market. For example Apple didn't develop the GUI but Jobs had enough vision to recognize how important and profitable that could be.

    very similar to Buffett, Gates, Jobs. Bezos, etc, self-made billionaires;
the anti-thesis of trust fund babies such as Donald Trump who had inherited over $400 millions from his father.

any different than Apple/Amazon, Google, MicroSoft, etc. ?

Musk made his first bundle of millions from his investment/work w PayPal. he then re-directed his PayPal profits to work on new narratives, EV and solar energy.
EV has worked out, solar not so much. later, he also took on more risk w space exploration, resulting in several successful space / orbital launches

he also lives in a $50k house!

if you believe him then that means he works over 17 hours a day 7 days a week.

dude is full of s*** and for some reason you have people that constantly worship him. its very weird.

Yes and this is a stupid thread. True heroes are people like frontline healthcare workers who risked their own lives to save others. True heroes are people who give more to the world than they take from it.

He deserves credit for advancing space, EV, and battery technology. That's about it. Everything about the guy is totally cringeworthy though, and the cultish fanboy crowd surrounding him is ridiculous. It's like hero worshiping the Koch brothers or something.

Teslas are kind of played out. There's so many other options now. It's dorky as hell but I love the idea of the 2024 VW Id.buzz Microbus. Dad mode complete.

I like the aspirations Musk is selling us... zero carbon future, advancing space civilization.

I don't always agree with his methods and there's always some head scratchers like buying carbon intensive btc.

The man is filthy rich, but sometimes i feel like he's a breathing cyberpunk character who i can't pin as chaotic good or evil.

As someone who thinks the system is currently wrecked, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

He did choose to call his company Telsa and not Musk. That got to count for something.

Being born who/where/when he was is most certainly "luck". He's done well with it, but it's the old "born on 3rd base thinking you hit a triple" adage.

The left loved this dude and gave Tesla money through regulatory credits. You literally forced up the price of new affordable ICE cars for the working class to subsidize electric cars for the rich. Every ICE car sold requires car makers to pay Tesla. Billions per year.

That's not even counting direct subsidies to consumers for the first 200K cars they sold.

You stole from the poor and gave to the rich, called it for the greater good, and now dislike the wealth inequality that created.

This dude doesn't like Elon. And fair enough, he lists a few valid cases of no follow through or other shenanigans.

What a silly post. And the hysterics in the last sentence - i can't even can't with that one.

Anyhow, it's possible to both to support or have supported green energy initiatives and to feel that Elon Musk and his troll army are giant douches!

There is nothing mutually exclusive about harboring these two beliefs simultaneously - let alone separated by a decade or so.

    C'mon man.
