I really like this Celtics team Ainge has put together. Nice combination of vets and young players all getting minutes. PJ Brown, Cassels, House, Davis, and Powe. How did Ainge assemble so much talent when he should have been hamstrung by the combined salaries of the 3 stars, Ainge deserved Exec of the year.

I'm glad the Celtics won. Yeah, JVG, their defense was good, blah blah blah. But the Pistons clearly weren't themselves and can play a lot better. I still think they will take this series. But if Chauncey continues to struggle, maybe not. That could offset Ray Allen being worthless.

    QUESTION:

Could someone who is more knowledgeable in basketball please explain to me why Ray Allen is sucking so badly in the playoffs? He used to be a incredible scorer in Seattle and performed quite well in the playoffs for the bucks. One would think that with KG and PP commanding so much double teams and defensive attention, such a great shooter like Ray would perform extremely well. Why is he playing like *****???

He was the BEST shooter that the league had seen since the time of bird...not exagerating, he was. Its painful to see him airball open shots :(

After watching tonight´s game no doubt the Pistons will erase the Celtics starting next game, great-shooting-night-for-the-Celts + HomeCourt + awful-shooting-night-from-Pistons-stars and they got a 9 point win, unless they got a treatment like they got in the third quarter (Pistons shoot 4 FT to Celts 12) the Celts will have no chance against one of the better teams at making adjustments.

If the refs favored the Celtics, they wouldn't have shot six less FTs than the Pistons despite scoring most of their points in the paint. In any event, the "no chance to win" Celtics have won three straight games against these guys.

i've said all year long i thought the PISTONS were overrated, and i still believe it to be true.

i'd also like to add the the CAVS are underrated. people are talking about how since it took 7 to beat the cavs that the celtics were overrated and underachievers, but i don't agree. its so funny when i would go to other boards and see piston fans talkin **** about the celtics because it took them 7 to beat the cavs, completely ignoring the fact those same cavs knocked them out last year.

the pistons are defense is severely overrated, especially against the celtics. in every single game they played, even the game where the pistons won, the celtics had absolutely no problem getting good looks against the pistons. the cav D was twice as good against the Cs as they struggled everytime down to get a good look.

furthermore, no one on the cavs is as good as lebron, so no one commands a double team. also, rasheed REFUSES to keep his behind on the block, so thats another thing that goes in favor of the celtics. id also like to add chauncey billups is overrated as well. the guy is shooting like 40% in the playoffs, even before the injury. chauncey had ONE good game against boston, that first game when boston gave it away at end.

i said celtics in 5 long before the playoffs started should these two teams meet and i still believe it.

It seems like you're more a Pistons hater/Celtics lover than a an objective analyst. It is true that Boston has won the season series, but the Pistons have played uncharacteristically last night, and the Celtics played very well with huge contributions from Rondo (5 steals!). Do you think the Pistons will play that poorly all series? If not, will they good enough to win?

It's acdtually a 12 point win, Tay Tay's meaningless last second 3ptr was the only reason why Boston didn't win by double digits.

You can't base referee "favoritism" just from FTA. When I watched the game, it seemed like the refs favored Boston. KG and PP received exceptional treatment.

I not getting it the particulars with the other poster. But.....

The Celts have been the best team all year by a wide margin (point diff, record, difference in FG/OFG. Further, their defensive metrics are far ahead of the rest of the teams--and that usually is even more important in the playoffs.

They are a Ray Allen playing like Ray Allen away from strolling to an NBA title.
As it is, with Pierce and KG playing well + their team defense, they are still probably favorites. And I don't see Detroit beating the 2/3rds Celts w/o Billips scoring like 18PPG on good efficiency. Detroit just doesn't have other individual match-ups they can turn for bread and butter offense, and it is going to be hard to out grind Boston to 3 strait home wins + 1/2 in Boston.

Detroit better win game 2 or they are in huge trouble.

for some reason the pistons play "uncharacteristically" every time they play the celtics..... its about time people realize its not a coincidence.

They played "uncharacteristically" against the Heat, Cavs and Spurs over the last few years too. Playing teams with great defenses + a beast who can break down any individual Detroit defender is a recipe to beat them.

If I had to pick a human being to shoot baskets for my life... I'd pick Ray Allen.

Alley-oop guys, but I mean it.
