I'm a little confused here. If we resign Dream to the 2 year deal, wouldn't we drop under the cap? It's my understanding that if we drop under the cap we would lose the mid-level exception & not be able to get it back even if we resigned MO a fraction of a second later, which should take us back over the cap. I guess my question is, is there a time frame where you can drop below the cap & not lose the mid-level exception, as long as you go back over the cap? ------------------ A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still.

You don't automatically lose your exceptions if you go under the cap. In order to lose your exceptions, you have to go under the cap by an amount that exceeds the combined value of all of our exceptions. The combined value of the Rockets exceptions (including a trade exceptions from the Drew deal), should be just under $7M. So, we'd have to be almost $7M under the cap before we lose our exceptions. But, once we go below the cap by that amount, we lose our exceptions for the year. ------------------ [This message has been edited by aelliott (edited July 18, 2001).]
Oeilpere, Dream at $8m is just a rhetorical exercise to see if Achebe will answer my question: "What is CD waiting for?" We can scale back the yrs for Mo and Shandon if it is more palatable. NIKE, Can't you sign your own free agents to 7yrs if you pay him with pure cap money, not an exception. I think the point here is that $6m is pretty decent for Mo', which he might take if given a longer term. Remember, this is just rhetorical to show how Dream and CD can't be arguing over money; it is likely contract length. My bet is that they compromise on a 2yr, but only 1 guaranteed.
So, what's the latest, oeilpere? (Thanks, in advance...) ------------------ the more I know, the more I know I don't know...
We should sign a top tier free agent next season (eg Vince Carter) then we could trade him for Timmy D in a sign and trade deal when his contract with SA runs out. This would allow us to aquire him even though the Francis signing will put us over the cap. He would also be a good interim small forward until Griffin is ready. ------------------ I cut all the heads off of a Hydra, and all I got was this StupidMoniker.
"Conspicuous by its abscense" reminds me of draft day. Rudy said he spoke with Stevie and Cat and they were both excited about Eddie. Do you think Hakeem noticed?
STOP THE PRESSES!!! I actually agree with ZRB for once! Couldn't have said it better meself. ------------------ This space for rent
crispee, Mo at 7yrs\57M?!?! I'm not attacking you and I realize that it's more a suggestion than probability (I hope), but I'd rather resign Dream to a 2yr\20M contract than the one you propose for Mo. I like Mo's potential and the way he fits in, but Mo shouldn't be averaging more than 6M a year. Try 6yrs\33M. ------------------
Hey Holmes..... Last I heard was Rockets will hold firm on their last offer and it's in Hakeem's court now. Doesn't look good, but who knows. Last I heard they upped their first year offer in a two year deal. That's all. ------------------
