I notice more often than not he shoots when he catches it while facing the basket, regardless of how open he is.
this fool is garbage. The only thing good about him is his shooting. If he can't make shot, he should be on the bench.
Uh, Carl Landry averaged 0.8 apg as a Rocket this season, while playing twice as many minutes as Andersen. Per 48 minutes, Andersen averages more assists (2.4) then Garrett Temple, Jared Jeffries, Jermaine Taylor and Landry. David plays fewer than 15 minutes per game. Ease up on using "per game" statistics for a guy playing that few minutes. Btw, if the weak side shooters hit even half of the wide open jumpers that Andersen gives them with his swing passes on the outside, he'd be averaging about 2-3 apg, easily. That would actually be VERY good for a guy averaging 14.5 mpg.
Wait Bima, you are now saying that Landry didn't pass either? I COMPLETELY AGREE !!!! Neither of them passed the ball. DD
A shooting PF who does not play defense is the last thing you want next to Yao. BTW, Andersen is not even very good at shooting the basket. Haslet from Miami would fit that bill much better, as far as shooting PFs.
He has the advantage of the height as PF, not as center. He could compensate the lack of speed with and advantage on height (does not have it like center). In Europe he used to defend PFs more than Centers, he's not accustomed to defend stronger players. Also frequently players increase their concentration and success with less responsabilities (a Yao aside).
I've seen Anderson pass the ball plenty of times. Once in a while, he'll try to go to the post, but most of the time I see him go to the elbow, gets the ball and then looks for options and passes it back out. Usually he is getting open jump shots on pick and rolls with the perimeter players which in my opinion he just has to shoot unless there is a better option. Anderson hasn't been good this season, but he definitely hasn't been that bad either. Defensively he actually tries, even though most defenders are stronger than him, and he does hit the boards although he does need to learn to box out. I'm hoping this summer he works on his strength foremost and then works on his three point range (since he is shooting them anyways) and also works on boxing out opponents (it isn't that hard). Overall, I didn't expect much and well I guess I'm content with the little he brings to the team.
Some of the threads and posts that showed up in the off season about Andersen being a potential new starting center made me laugh. He's a solid bench player in my book and he will continue to refine his game, but don't get ahead of yourselves.
What appreciation? seriously the guy needs some serious help and I do not know why he is getting he minutes he is getting. I think Hilton Armstrong should be getting those minutes. He's missing all the shots he gets and his rebounding sucks along with his half hearted defense. Seriously Gerard Jefferies should take his minutes or Hilton Armstrong.
A lot of people owe the OP an apology. He was right all along about Andersen. He sucks. He has no business in the NBA. I was critical of the Rockets signing 37 year old Brent Barry when it happened. I, much like aussie rocket, was immediately attacked by all the blind sheep who lack critical thinking skills and just embrace everything the organization does.
Well, sometimes people are critical of the team's roster moves. With Brent Barry I could at least understand as he has been a good player before. I never really understood why people jumped on Andersen's bandwagon, defending him at every moment. From the start he was called another great acquisition by Morey yet even in his highlights videos he looked bad. You maybe on to something though, Kwame. There are some people who seem to support everything. For arguments sake they are in good position because you can always just say things didn't work out and no one will care but if you are one of the few who championed an anquisition early you can rub it in everyone's faces.
I thought that too, but last I checked (a few weeks back) Chuck Hayes leads the team in that department, by far.
Even though he might have below-average foot-speed, Andersen might be better suited playing PF alongside a real C. His interior defense wouldn't be exposed as much, and his legs would probably be fresher too (not having to defend in the post) which would help his shooting percentages.
Which is what i said awhile back. Thats where i think he should play. Grinding and playing against those bigger guys really takes a toll on your legs which bothers your shot.
Maybe playing him at power forward is worth a shot but he has been a disappointment and possibly Morey's worst "get" of his tenure. Hopefully he can play out of it because he looks lost right now.
The way it looks right now, he probably gets traded as (effectively) an expiring contract, because I believe his salary is not guaranteed for 2011-2012.
