I hate to dance on a fellow countrymen and Rockets players grave - but I just want to thank David Andersen for playing up to his potential (very, very limited) and vindicating all the condemning comments I made of him. Yes, its only his first game...and yes, its only pre season. I still wish I was somehow wrong Rockets fans - but I know I was right all along.
I didn't get to see the game, but from the boxscre it just looks like he had a bad shooting game. No big deal. That happens. He rebounded at a decent rate for his minutes and his +/- was +19. Was his defense terrible or something?
What comments did you make about him? Could you care to share? I'd like to know what a fellow countrymen thinks of the tall guy.
His defence wasn't great - he got caught out jumping in the air a few times. Got bullied around by Blair a few times too. But not completely awful. He missed a few wide open looks too. Passed really well. aussie-rocket is going off 'half-cocked' on this one - he'll be living to regret this thread in about 2 weeks. Anderson won't be an all-star for us, but he's a handy rotation player who fits in with the style of play we're going for.
I'm not too worried about his offense. But he's very likely to be dominated by the NBA centers night after night.
Aussie no offense but I watched the game and he looked lost, slow, just not very good be it was his first NBA game. I believe he will get better but he didn't look good tonight. He was totally out rebounded and pushed around by the Spurs scrubs even Bonner posted him up once. It's the first game and the Rockets are high on him so he definately needs more time
Yeah, I was hoping it was something of an overreaction, but when you can't see the game, it sounds really bad. Thanks for clearing up.
Terrible thread. It's the first game dude. His shot selection will get better. Plus, he isn't making that much and is our backup center. No one said he was going to an allstar or something..
Some guys in the game thread actually liked his game. Is he really as big a ball hog as he was tonight? The guy thinks he's an Aussie Mehmet Okur.
There were several threads when we first signed him that covered some different aspects of why he's not an NBA player. A majority of people were telling me not to be so negative, that he'd work out fine, that Morey knew better than aussie rocket, yada yada....a lot of those posters would of never seen him play... Reading through the game thread today was vindication at its finest. Soft, one dimensional, not specially athletic, not fast, gets burnt on D with regularity....ugh its gonna get ugly.
To put a little positive spin on it, things can only go up from here right? WRONG? I'll give it time before I pass judgment.
His defense/rebounding was terrible. Offensively, he reminded me of Juwan Howard on a bad shooting day. Andersen struggled big time. It was also his very first game.
