Happy for David, scoring 17 pts, but his plus/minus was worst on the team (-17) and only 4 boards, all defensive. I havent seen any of the game, but he must of done some nice work inside to get to the line 8 times. You cannot change him at this point, if he makes some shots he will get some time, but its a big IF when it comes to facing the tougher competition in the reg. season.
That's the spirit mate, perhaps you spoke a little too soon? I'm a fellow Aussie and obsessed with the NBA. I only just discovered this forum. Like you, I've seen Andersen play a lot over the years and never thought that much of him from his time in Australia. His game completely changed when he got to Europe though and he really stepped up in big game situations over there. I was pumped when I heard that the Rockets had acquired his rights after the Hawks had held him hostage for so long. I really think that the Rockets are the perfect fit for him. His pick and pop style of play compliments the undersized bangers and rebounders like Scola, Hayes and Landry. I actually think he's going to do a lot better than what most people are expecting of him. He's not going to grab 12 boards a game, but when you play alongside of guys like Hayes, Landry and Scola, his rebounding deficiencies are going to be somewhat covered for. I just watched a stream of the game against the Bucks and he looked really good. He took it inside and made some plays in the paint as well as connecting on his outside shooting game which is pretty much ready made for the NBA. I think if people are expecting Dwight Howard, they are going to be disappointed, but he plays like a more athletic Mehmet Okur and when Rockets fans see him for what he is, I think they'll (un-sarcastically) appreciate him. He's a lot better than Brian Cook who does nothing but stand in the corners and jack up 3s. At least Andersen will set some screens and pass the ball.
So you do know this stat exist. Any reason why you didn't point this out when you made this thread? Because David Anderson's +/- for the Spurs game was +19. +/- stat for any particular game is not very relevant, just like any other stat out there. Morey and other stat guys only use it in context with a large sample size.
Doesnt sound too objective to me. He scored 17 points and you said he scored OK. You point everything negative about him....only 4 rebounds...-17....he can not play against the comp in regular season....he cant be changed..etc........ Just can not wait when he has a bad game in regular season...LOL
Yeh he's actually a DAOF (David Andersen Only Fan), because he's from the same country. He's just putting up this facade, hating on him first before anybody else, so that people won't catch on.
I am not gonna chew him out game by game. Not necessary. Although if he does bust out and have a really good reg. season game its pretty clear people are going to be all over me - bumping this thread and letting me know about it - and fair enough, I deserve it.
I can see that. It's cool. I actually don't think he's as good as I'm hoping he's going to be. I think he'll do ok though. I think at the very least with Adelman and the structure of the roster, he's in the right system. I'm hoping he plays well. I guess we'll see. Knowing full-well that it's only pre-season, I'm thinking so far so good (relative to expectations). Agree or disagree?
That is the truth right there. Empty Juwan Howard stat line. Throw down a bunch of junk jumpers and then he's a turnstyle on the defensive end. I really like his ability to hit the jumper. But I would be willing to bet he shoots less than 50% from the field. And when we get to the regular season, the only way he gets to the line like that is if the officials stay on strike. We'd better pray for that I suppose. Yeah, +19 in the San Antonio game. Blah blah blah. They weren't playing anybody out there. And he wasn't in the game for the most part against Blair. When he was playing against Blair, Blair was eating his lunch. David Andersen is the new Juwan Howard. When he throws up a 5 for 9 with a bunch of free throws, you take it. That's the highlight of what he is going to give you. Three pointer after three pointer was raining in over his head against the Bucks because he cannot help on the perimeter and the perimeter defense has to sag in to help him in the paint.
The were raining 3's when Ariza and Battier where in the bench and Houston perimeter defense where awful at that time especially in transition.
No one is trying to change him...he's doing what he was brought here to do, score. He's going to face tougher defensive big men, yes, but he's not someone you dump it in to and wait for him to attack one on one. He's going to be moving around and/or coming off some picks for his shots, meaning he's going to be open enough to get his shots off. That being said, the only thing that's going to keep him from hitting his shots is himself and he seems strong enough mentally to not fade out because he lost confidence.
i dont see what's wrong with him being a juwan howard....not everyone can be Dwight howard on the defensive side. If used properly he can be very helpful, plus he actually has a better J than Howard.
Once again, yes he will struggle on the defensive side of the ball, but that's where I hope team D comes into play. Anyone thinks he won't have at least some mild success on the offensive side is not paying attention. DA continues to improve game by game and looked much better than Bogut did tonight. As for his rebounding, he is at least getting better position, I could see him averaging maybe six or so a game depending on minutes. He is pretty fluid on the offensive side, and can score consistently from multiple spots on the floor.
