I personally have been disappointed. Since these preseason games have started the number of McGrady bashing threads has significantly diminished. Surely this team doesn't have other players to talk about?
Andersen stays outside too much for my liking, but man, he can shoot it. He's very confident shooting the ball and I love him as a pick and pop option. I just want to see a more aggressive nature rebounding and defensively. I hope he has it in him.
ok, finished seeing the video of the first half of the spurs game and.....i expected to see Blair just manhandling DA and movign him around...and there wasn't a lot of that... all i saw was DA not blocking out properly, allowing Blair to get a hand up to tip or rebound the ball. Although I'd hope a center could block out properly at 29 yr of age, i don't think it's so much an issue of lack of strength or bulk as some indicated. He never completely faced away from Blair and put his back/rear on him to block him out. He was always side ways and got caught spinning looking for Blair as the rebound came down. I hope the staff sees this and works specifically n boxing out with him, perhaps he's paying too much attention to the ball and that is why he's late to block out, possibly trying to play the passing lane too much.
As much as I can't stand Pau Gasol(7'0 - 250lbs), he and David's(7'0 - 245lbs) dimensions are very similar. If David could be a poor man's Pau Gasol, I'd be happy.
Andersen will be fine. This reminds me a lot of the "oh Scola sucks", "he never boces out". It's a different game and the guy is in training mode now. Get over it untill the season starts.
Andersen had a nice offensive game today against the Magic. He has a nice turnaround jumper from the post, and his 18 footer jumper looks very smooth. As someone else mentioned in another thread, he needs to set better screens on offense, and on defense he needs to get better all-around. But as a scorer, I think he'll do fine.
Well, obviously no one is going to completely shut down even an average offensive player. What's important is the difference he makes while in the game. How many points will he make/prevent and how many rebounds will he get while on the court. Chuck doesn't have to score a single point and he'll have a huge impact on the game. He is an ELITE post defender, probably top 5 in the nba. Chuck and Andersen aren't similar AT ALL. As of now*, Andersen is an average offensive player, a poor rebounder, and an awful defender. Chuck Hayes is an elite defender, a great rebounder, and an awful scorer (he's got other offensive skills:screens, off. rebounding, passing, etc.). *I want to stress that I am analyzing the preseason games and random youtube highlights that I have seen of Andersen, that's all I can do. I don't like to keep playing the prediction game, what I say is based on what Andersen is NOW. I really hope he improves, it is possible.
Andersen's certainly gotten better since that first game, but the rebounding has to improve. He needs to get a lot more assertive in that aspect of the game.
Halftime Break. David Andersen is the 2nd leading scorer with 13 pts. He trails the Michael Redd by 2 pts.
30 of the Bucks 63 pts came from 3pters. Bucks are 10-17 from 3pt line. It's the perimeter defenders that are giving up the points. Bogut held to 4 pts. Kurt Thomas held to 2 pts. Elson held to 2 pts. Andersen 13 pts vs Bogut/Thomas/Elson 8 pts He is looking good in a 1 to 3 comparison.
man i would love to see david andersen average 20 and 19 just so this thread can get a negative 5 stars. (if that option existed).
Same excuses I heard for Juwan. Everybody always comparing his stats but the end game was when he was on the floor we were losing most of the time.
Budinger and Taylor have a long way to go. When they were on the court, our perimeter D was falling apart. I think when Tmac is back, they may both go to the D-Leauge.
abc2007, Agreed. Budinger & Taylor are much worse defensively than I imagined. Both of them may see time in the D-league.
