It would be hilarious if Morey signs ariza to a vet min deal, trades for Gordon, and signs Tucker to that rumored 3/30 deal.

Embiid gotta think "wtf is going on here???"

    Is Morey a fraud?

Did I get tricked by the wizard of oz?

    one trick pony?

if Stone extracts Thybulle and a first for Eric Gordon he's an absolute legend.

Especially when the original, younger version didn’t win either.

Yeah, exactly. Like when Thibs would bring in all of his former Bulls or JVG bringing in former Knicks to the Rockets. Successful dynasties bring in and develop talent (Warriors with their young guys, Big 3 Boston with guys like Rondo and davis).

Is Morey really a 1 trick pony? Lol. Reminds me of when JVG briught his NYN players back like Moochie Norris.

I'll play devil's advocate and not criticize Morey as all of you guys are.

1a) Development. The Sixers are in win-now mode. Morey may have shot himself in the foot by trading for Harden, but this really is Embiid's prime - you can't spend time hoping that Thybulle will develop any semblance of an offensive game in the next year or so, so you have to dangle him + assets for players that are actually good on offense.

Plus, Thybulle is eligible for a HUGE payday. Morey might not want to pay Thybulle, but he doesn't want to lose Thybulle for nothing, either.

1b) They are developing players - it's a reason why Maxey isn't in publicized trade talks for like, a Beal or someone else I could be wrong, and Maxey could be traded tomorrow. Who knows? But it's not like Morey is trading every promising young player for vets.

    2) Retread. "Harden + Tucker + Gordon didn't win, so it's weird Morey might be trying again with those same players." Ok, sure, but they were really only stopped by the prime Warriors - a team that had Durant, a Draymond that was respectable on offense, an Iguodala that actually had playing time and a pre-ACL/Achilles injury Klay.

Obviously, that Houston core is no longer in their prime, but despite no title, it was Morey's most successful version of a team.

Since they're never seeing that particular iteration of the Warriors again, I don't blame him one bit if he wanted to try again with those players + an MVP candidate in Embiid.

Miami will probably lose Tucker. Who knows what Boston is going to be like, after completely blowing it in the Finals. Brooklyn might lose Kyrie and essentially, KD. East is going to be more open next year.

tl;dr - Morey realizes that they probably can't win with an allergic-to-offense Thybulle, a Danny Green coming off a bad knee injury and a Harden who looks like trash. There's no one to really develop except Maxey, and Philly can't really waste time drafting and developing future players because Embiid ain't getting any younger.

You can always afford to develop future players, see GSW. I think this is one of Morey's major flaws he has a 1 track mind. If the team is a contender they should sell all their picks for win now moves and fill the team with old ass vets. GSW oth kept their team as a going concern and didnt neglect their future as they keep contending.

Also no way in hell Thybulle gets a big payday. Defenders are always underpaid (Ariza, Tucker etc) and in Thybulle's case the fact that he cant shoot and cant do anything else except defend ( 5 pts, 2 rebs) is pretty obvious.

The fact that Morey shopped Matisse and their 23rd to so many teams; gives me pause.

Thybulle didn't show up in the playoffs. Plus his decision on holistic medicine and not getting vaccinated could have also sour Philly (last post season). He's still valuable like Tate, but was a liability on offense.

    Thybule's contract is decent.

    2021-22 - $4,379,527.
    2023-24 - QO: $6,275,86 (RFA)

He's 25, young, but not that young... going into his 4th year. Philly might think he's near his ceiling. When he's ON for defense, he is really good. If he comes here, is he going to play? Maybe if Tate is gone, but another 6'5" guard. Also can't space the floor.

Does Stone think he can flip him for a better deal. The fact that Morey is asking every team already kinda reveal his market value.

Philly's core is Maxey, Harden and Embid. Harris' contract is tough to move, but since they are win now, having Tobias in the post season isn't the worst thing in the world.

Stone should listen at least. Next year, the goal is to improve defense; I'm all for that. If the team's identity is say defense.... we could probably use him, but i'm not sure if offense should still be 5-out.

    KPJ
    Green
    Tate/Thybulle
    Banchero
    Sengun

That's not lot of spacing for Jalen.

For those giving Morey a pass/defending him. Just know this is what Philly could’ve had for the second half of last season/playoffs/future. Talk about a squad with actual attractive/tradeable assets and a bright present/future outlook.

    Tyrese Maxey
    Anfernee Simons
    CJ McCollum
    Seth Curry
    Thybulle
    Danny Green
    Tobias Harris
    Andre Drummond
    Embiid
    Portland Future First round pick
Kept own 2022 or 2023 First round pick
Kept own 2027 First round pick

Instead Morey just had to trade for a worthless Harden who couldn’t even do the 1 thing he’s good for. They lacked scoring, 3 pt shooting and got killed on the boards
and defensively playing the ghost of DJ.

As for Tucker I’m glad he’s securing that final big bag but paying a 38 year old PJ Tucker $10 million per year until age 41 screams desperation. Dude is tough as nails but he’s human too and breaking down. He couldn’t make it to the finish line (played first 3 minutes in Q3 of game 7 and couldn’t go any more). There’s a lot of wear and tear on those tires especially playing the way/taking on the responsibility he does.

Who exactly did they develop during the Durant years that's helping them, as of now? It's a lot easier to say "Look! We're developing and contending!" when you've already won at least one title.

But do a deeper dive into their past draft history. From the '15 draft to the '21 draft, they've drafted 13 players. Looney (2015) is one of two notable names, and he barely saw the floor in the Finals. Poole is the other notable name, and he was pretty good, but he was drafted in 2019...not during the Durant years. Wiseman, Kuminga and Moody are too early in their careers to say.

Using GSW as an example isn't the best, because they're outliers in that sense (champs with a core) and they're already in luxury tax hell. Using a team like OKC, who caught lightning in a bottle with Durant, Westbrook and Harden, is also a bad example.

Here's the thing. . . . .. Golden State has the HIGHEST PAYROLL IN THE NBA
Hit with the most Luxury Taxes etc
They can develop players because they outspend to keep them

So I am thinking more and more the so called GOLD STATE MODEL
    is only for RICH TEAMS
Which would make the NBA like the MLB was with the Yankeess simply outspending everyone

Consider this . . .. IF OKC used the Golden State Model . . .we would have never had a shot at Harden
They can Over Pay even their role players. . .

Do they get credit for "developing a #1 overall draft pick" in Wiggins

Sixers fans feeling super underwhelmed tonight. Now there is no way they can even afford PJ. They better hope Thybulle somehow develops a shot.

Not only do they spend the most, they are second highest spending team of all American sports ever in history. And next year they will be the highest with almost $500 million dollar payroll if they keep everyone. Not sure how teams can compete with this. Is Steph Curry actually great or did he just happen to be in the best organization ever. $500 million is more than 5 whole nba teams. It's getting absurd.

as they should. There is minimal developing under Morey or potential youngins drafted.

Morey is really good shuffling the deck chairs on the titanic while hyping it up to Beethoven music.
