Cat will have a VERY tough time getting paid more than what he is making now, but can probably get a longer term deal. The free agent pool at SG position this off season is probably the deepest it's EVER been, which makes me believe that this off season would be the best time to get a cheap SG on your team (below market value that is), it ain't like last year when Tukoglu got an $8 mil/per, I think only Allen, Redd, and J. Johnson will make more than $8 mill/per. Here is the list: 1. Ray Allen 2. Michael Redd (Player Option) 3. Larry Hughes 4. Joe Johnson (Restricted) 5. Cuttino Mobley (Player Option) 6. Eddie Jones (Player Option) 7. Bobby Jackson (Team Option) 8. Kerry Kittles 9. Latrell Sprewell 10. Ronald Murray (Restricted) 11. Willie Green (Restricted/Early Bird Rights) 12. Jon Barry 13. Casey Jacobsen 14. DerMarr Johnson 15. Juan Dixon (Option Declined) 16. Raja Bell 17. Keith Bogans (Restricted/Early Bird Rights) 18. Maurice Evans (Restricted) 19. Kareem Rush (Option Declined) 20. Shandon Anderson 21. Dajuan Wagner (Option Declined) 22. Anthony Peeler 23. Greg Buckner (Player Option) 24. Matt Carroll 25. Damien Wilkins (Restricted) 26. Richie Frahm (Restricted) 27. Ron Mercer (Player Option) 28. Eddie House 29. Laron Profit 30. Erik Daniels (Restricted) 31. Tamar Slay (Team Option) 32. Romain Sato 33. Steve Smith 34. Wesley Person 35. Horace Jenkins (Restricted) 36. Qyntel Woods 37. Adrian Griffin 38. Kedrick Brown 39. Dion Glover 40. Cory Alexander See what I am saying? It will be just tough to make money with this many players available on the market.
If you took the $6.3 million and multiplied it by 6 years, we may be in the ballpark. Cat impressed me the most during JVG's first year. Unlike SF, Cat adapted and became a better player, especially on defense. He would be a HUGE upgrade from David Wesley. As long as he knows his role on the team, which I think he would, he's exactly what we need. He isn't the best passer and tends to hold on to the ball too long sometimes, but give him a full training camp and he will adapt. Cat is a true professional and answers our need for more size in our perimeter defense and he can take a game over when he's hot from outside. Plus he can take it to the hole sometimes. bigboymumu, if you speak to him again, tell him we would love to have him back.
Im a cat fan, always have been. I would love to have him back in a rockets uniform. But I dont think it will happen again. One quick side note, he can run the point and he would be a great back up to T-mac.
I am in his ear every chance I get. I usually start by saying "the Kings suck" and end with "Come Home Man". We'll see what happens. I sure would love to see him back.
Sign him up. He's be perfect (at SG) along side of TMac (at SF). Cat plays good defense and has low TO (2.1). He'd be great getting passes from Tmac cutting to the basket. Cat > Westley
Sign Cat and draft a guy who can rebound and defend, suddenly this become an elite team. Unlike Wesley and Barry, Cat can get his own shot and he can drive to the hole on those nights when he's not hitting from outside. The only problem I ever had with Cat was that he didn't compliment Steve's game - too similar.
I’d welcome Cat back with open arms. Trade for Cat, sign Daniels, and we’ll finally have a backcourt that can actually stay fairly competitive with Nash/JJ, Parker/Ginobilli, Billups/Hamilton, and all the great backcourts of the elite teams in the NBA.
I wouldn't call the two of us "friends". I know him, he knows me. We tend to hang out at the same places.
Cat's skills and athleticism can't be questioned,it's between the ears that I worry about.. If he's changed under Pete Carrill's tutelage, fine. But I'm more inclined to believe we'll get the same selfish, immature ballplayer. We can't take the risk of committing big longterm money to someone who has the potential to be a Blackhole and not know his place or role on this team.
I would like to bring Cat back to Houston. Not sure if we'll have the type of money he is looking for, but he's got the shooting and defense we need at SG. TMac and Cat would shoot the lights out, unfortunately, that is something this team might not need.
Do not want Cat back. Where will he play? 2 guard. He makes too much $$ and is not a team player. His ego is HUGE. He speaks in 3rd person.
Crisco, Songalia WOULD make a very good fit here now that I think about it. I'd rather have him - a proven commodity - than Stromile Swift who is still an unknown when you stop and think about it. I'd take predictible over enigmatic any day of the week. -P1st, S2nd
Why are all the mad love and props for Cat? You guys seemed to forget Cat was the other half of DUMB and DUMBMER, not so long ago. Do you still remember all those wild shots, a certified self proclaimed BLACKHOLE, not to mention YAO became The 7'6'' Chinese Invisible Man when playing with CAT. Just say no to Cat! On the other hand Songaila is worth a look, he has a nice midrange jumper, good size(6'10''), he's better than any of our current PFs(if Howard comes back less than full strengh) and he's not too terribly expensive. Say yes to Songaila!
