Then give me the 1 loss Big 10 champ. Do you (i.e. 1-loss LSU, Auburn) really deserve the spot if you can't even win your conference? And is a 3-loss South Carolina more deserving than the 1-loss Big 10 champ (Wisconsin, OSU, or MSU)? I think the answer is "No" for both. Therefore Big 10 champ should get the other spot. As for Stanford, nobody will want to see a rematch of it again (see: Ohio State-Michigan 2006). According to the rule, the BCS title game have to pick the top 2 BCS-ranked teams. It'll be up to voters at the last minute to drastically reshuffle the orders of the 1-loss teams to determine who gets the #2 spot.
You answered the question. Rest assured, whoever wins the Big Ten is out of the picture. Same for South Carolina if they beat Auburn. Oregon will face either LSU, Auburn or Stanford. The voters won't dramatically shift anything. I don't understand why you think they would.
Voters wouldn't want a rematch, so I can see Stanford being voted down. And the whole "didn't win your own division" hurts LSU, though they'd probably be at the top in the computers if they get to 11-1. My guess is that they lose to Arkansas today eliminating them anyway. I could see either Oklahoma State (with consecutive wins over Oklahoma and Nebraska) or Wisconsin being next in line if LSU loses or people them down due to the conference championship thing. Of course, all of this assumes TCU loses to a 1-10 team...
If Auburn loses I still think they should hold off TCU and others. Maybe its just me but 1 loss in the SEC much more impressive than undefeated in CUSA or WAC or anything liek that.......
Actually, never mind on Wisconsin. Their computer rating sucks. So if Auburn & TCU lose, Oklahoma State & LSU are probably the two best bets. If Okie State and LSU lose today, then you're kind of stuck with a Big 10 team or a rematch.
Based on the unbiased numbers, Big 10 schedules have been no better than Boise State's schedule this year. Big 10 simply didn't beat anyone of note outside of conference. Based on Sagarin rankings, the Big10 is 2-20 against top 30 teams outside of beating each other.
Not 1 season . . . several. I think they will have to go 24-0 over the next two season to get back in this position again . . . . cause that is how the BCS is They will say . . .well they were exposed and we overrated them and we won't do that again. Where they are now is the result of dominating over several seasons. Now they almost back to square one Rocket River
That doesn't make any sense. They haven't played 22 OOC Top 30 teams this season. In addition, no top 10 team has played a ranked OOC team that is still ranked.
I'm a Big Ten guy, but Stanford is better than any of the top 3 Big Ten teams. I'm not 100% sure Oregon would have beaten them if it weren't for the returned fumble when the Stanford player got a concussion. But the reality of the matter is TCU won't lose today. Not a chance. Oregon will be strong favorite in the "Civil War". Call me crazy, but South Carolina has a good chance next week against Auburn if Stephen Garcia plays decently.
My bad - I did some terrible math there. I forgot to subtract all the Big10 losses to the top25 Big10 teams. The 20 isn't anywhere near correct - I think they do have the 2 wins, but not sure how many losses. Nevertheless, the conference as a whole hasn't beaten anyone of note outside of conference and the computers think all the top teams have played Boise-State-like schedules. Boise State has a win over VaTech. LSU also has a win over West Virginia.
Oh I agree about Stanford. They are as good as anyone. I wouldn't bet against them vs any team in the country except Oregon - and that's simply because I just don't think anyone can keep with Oregon's offense. Eventually, they'll wear you out and crush you by scoring in 1 minute drives.
I think both Oregon and Auburn will win and they'll be in the championship. If either loses TCU will get in. If both lose it will be VERY interesting. My gut says to put Stanford in, but the Big 10 winner, Auburn, LSU and possibly a 1 loss OK St team would like to argue with that. My probably with Auburn and LSU is the amount of close games they played against opponents that aren't that good. Personally, how I look at teams is throw out their worst/closest win (because every team can have a bad game) and then look at how they did. In that case OK St also makes a good argument along with Stanford and the Big 10 winner. As good as I think the SEC is and how much I respect them, the teams up top this year are weak, no offense, but I still think Alabama is better than LSU and Auburn.
