To me the #1 question is not whether or not he can win us back, the fans, but could he possibly win back his teammates? If that answer is NO then he must be gone yesterday. If the answer is YES then Welcome back, Mack!

I am not "arrogant enough" and I am neither sheep enough to follow blindly anyone or anything without getting some type of substantive information to draw my own conclusions. In this case, I see that information as being him playing on the court with this team.

As I've said before, it appears that you choose to listen. I prefer to see it for myself, preferably with this team.

I'm pulling for the guy and the team. This will continue beyond our exchange. No one here can dictate to me where my allegiance lies. Being on a fan forum that is all about fans giving their opinions (with the occasional fact), I have stated mine and do not need your approval.

    Again, what's the problem?

Nice, well thought out post. My issue is that you're assuming he found his "way to the right path" but there is no evidence to support that. It's just your hope, your wish. He hasn't been any better behaved this season than in years past. He already went to the media completely contradicting the team's plan for him, he dressed out for a game he knew he wasn't playing in and then he posted a video online complaining that the organization wasn't catering to him. What about that says "right path?" I guess you can say he hasn't done anything stupid in two weeks but now you're really setting the bar to an all time low for this clown. I suppose rehabbing this summer was something to praise him over but isn't that his job and isn't this a contract year? Hardly something fans should be excited over when that's what he makes over $23 million to do.

I can understand the thought process that says give him another chance because he is (finally) putting the work in. It makes sense if someone truly believes the guy can fit in. I just feel that his body of work has clearly defined who he is. We can expect him to quit when things get tough, blame someone else for shortcomings and then whine to the media about touches, injuries etc. That's not worth a few extra W's on a team that is attempting to develop talent for the future.

He did do all of that. He thought once he was "healthy" again and had a long enough break he could come back and just be T-mac. The great thing is he was really anxious to play - that's not negative.

He handled it the T_mac way. Which was to pout and complain to the media. It didn't work. So finally he had conversations with Adelman - and they worked something out. The must have really come to the same page...

because...all t-mac has been saying the past few weeks has been exactly right. I mean, when was the last time you remember everything the guy said to be exactly right? How about never!

So I am really encouraged...because he's now DOING and SAYING the right things. Maybe the guy had an epiphany. Maybe he hasn't changed and will go back to pouting once he returns.

But you know what...he's been humbled. And I am curious to see how a humbled T-mac plays.

Human nature is hard to change, not without a life changing event. You can
say T-mac is doing all the right things trying to be part of the team. You can
also interpret that as desire to earn another big contract. Say if he does come
back and play well for the reminder of the season, what are the chances he
will remain the good way after we (or another team) sign him to another big
contract instead of going back to the old me-mac?
I think at this moment, the management does not want to give it another try, based on what they have seen in the past. If this team totally sucks, then they
are more motivated to give T-mac a try. But we are doing pretty well and you
don't want to take any risk to ruin it.
There is always a chance that T-mac has become another unselfish team first
player after all that has happened. But the risk of him being his oldself is higher
that that. When you know a stock that has 70% downside and 30% upside
based on your research, you don't buy it.

Why are you guys constantly talkin about his injury, sure it was a big problem, but the reason I started disliking him (keep in mind I've been a Rockets Fan since Matt Bullards rookie season AND NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE)---its his attitude. There were LOTS of games like the one featured on the vid where he would things like pass the ball, and turn his back, slow down at halfcourt and let 4 players run a play. Purposely not foul and make the teamate earn his 2 points instead of an easy drive. He would pass the ball lazily and smirk like he didnt care. He stopped giving as many assists (check his assists) and that stat started going downhill. You cant blame that attitude and effort on his injury. Scola would play with one leg if he could, in fact Ive seen Scola play recently with goggles that would fog up and he still gave his all. I was a T-mac "supporter" until he displayed this lack of effort--this is a MENTAL issue NOT physical. HOWEVER I believe in second chances and I think he can really pull through if he at least maintains his basketball IQ (our team would benefit greatly from his assists that he started getting really good at before he said "meh"). I trust in Adelman that he can successfully create a gameplan involving McGrady no matter what, as long as T is ready to go with the flow. GO ROX!

Your correct, I did not deny that, but it also did a sharp dip right around the time of the video that clutch posted.
That of course, (which you know) would be hard to prove unless someone actually archived all the game of the season, if that could be pulled, I would EASILY find this for you..
I think you got my point but trying to get technical, basically if this happened to T, I have a feeling he would just sit out a game.

They would not do the deal for McGrady....there is not a single NBA team that would take Tracy McGrady right now for his talent.

    Not one !

The reason is that he could bolt on anyone in the summer even if he is all the way back, so no one would take on that amount of risk by gutting their roster for a 1/2 season.

Teams would be doing a deal for his expiring contract only, thus my point.

its hard enough just to fit tmac onto another team. he alone represents 40% of the 2009-2010 salary cap. not easy to just copy-past that kind of money onto another roster, let alone do so in a fashion that brings back something useful and not poisonous.

we have until feb 18th to find out exactly how much of a wizard morey is. hopefully he can do a david copperfield and make tracy mcgrady's gigantic contract disappear!

i particularly enjoyed the exchange between dave '78 & s.l.f.t. (who nees to s.t.f.u.)! just kidding. why i read this forum.

     :)

but the exact premise at which you guys depart actually occurs before "whether or not he has learned a lesson" could take place. it's whether or not t.m. is even aware of the fact that he is embarrassing himself (which begs the question can anything really be embarrassing if one is unaware?).

because i submit that he is NOT even aware of the fact that he's viewed by 85%+ of houston & a greater % nationally (& beyond) as nothing more than a B.H.P. (as previously alleged in this thread).

see, these guys live in a bubble. surrounded by parrots who tell them excactly what they want to hear, so they think they can do only right. but 17 y.o.'s? yeah kids starting their at least, but the kids who comment on his blog, i scored these kids' essays. these students from fla. schools years ago, i read whatever fascination they had going on at the time. from glue-huffers to advanced students, worshippers! all. Half of the essays i read were about t-MAC (& the other half about kobe). they all just knew and loved a little TOO much. a standardized state test, believe it or not. i read hundreds of them. Maybe if i were still doing it today, scoring these essays from floridiots (j/k), maybe they would be all over TEBOW! ... psyche, it's all about D.H. A.K.A. superman & D-Wade a.k.a. flashchair spade. i'm curious though.

l.o.l. great forum. dada dakota is so happy, v.y. might win a s.b. & t-mac is leaving on a train of humiliation. d.d.'s just taking pot shots from his lawnchair. margarita, & a san salvadorian witch controlling his every move. his own personal prison.

too bad for t.o.f.'s that your Savior is more excited about his all-star vote vindication than anything to do with this team or winning. but that's a win-win for him & guys like lebitch!. just check their $tats. & remember who will have the last laugh. except the rockets now, from team to coach & g.m.- they are currently rofling a little bit themselves. i mean addelman was literally l.o.l.ing a few times in front of REPORTERS about the poor guy (e.g. "hey you ready tmac? you ready to start vs. bron? oh o.k. then maybe we'll wait a few & see how you feel later, l.o.l."; & addelman: "hey so maybe we can TRADE him... l.o.l. i just meant for a day! get it? it's a joke. r.o.f.l. at t-mac's worthless ass we can't even trade for ****!

but tmac roffles last! championship with boston. beantown just becomes a purgatory layover where washed up loser superstars can meet to rack up dirty tainted rings. he & a.i. can meet at that bench for an asterisked ring next year. w/K.G. up in their grill.

If Darryl Morey is indeed a wizard/warlock, then he will conjure up a djinni who will repair all that ails Tracy McGrady and Rick Adelman. Following that will be a wondrous championship procession through the Western Conference, all the way to the golden ring!

I'll be so happy when people stop comparing life and death situations like war/military situations to a freaking basketball game. Nobody knows how someone would act in a fox hole unless they were there and lives were in danger.

Let's be honest with ourselves. Where is this season going? This team has already exceeded expectations, but how much more can we realistically expect? A playoff berth? Another first round exit? Without McGrady, our ceiling is undeniably limited...

It's clear that the Rockets have chosen not to tank this year, which I respect. With that in mind, why not let McGrady play and maximize this team's potential? If he sucks, then so be it--nothing lost. But if he comes back strong, maybe we have a chance to make things interesting in the postseason.

I know this topic has already been debated, but do you really think McGrady's return will hurt the Rockets? Whatever your opinion may be, there is only one way to know for sure...
