It looks that way. It reads like a "lower your expectations" for what the Rockets are getting in return kind of message, too. I don't care anymore. If getting rid of McGrady will mean b****ing will be abated, then I am all for it.

    this is the standard excuse.

at the end of the day, none of those guys made him quit. none of those guys made him show up for camp out of shape or not do his rehab. none of those guys is supposed to be a leader for the team. none of those guys is getting paid like a superstar. none of those guys is supposed to do the things tracy is supposed to do.

they haven't been the most talented teams in the playoffs no, but lesser teams have won playoff series over more talented teams in the past. just never with tracy.

Great post, everyone quit once in a while and I am not saying he is right for doing that. Kobe quit on the Lakers in game 7 against the Suns on year.

These are some pics I took during Dec. 31st 2008 New Years game against the Bucks. (Just a few days before the Toronto game.) Again, McGrady chillin near half court.

Could have been the case. could be spacing. Look at how far he has to be out there so that his man is still guarding him and can't double down low.

i guess this is where we have to agree to disagree.

    for me, the positives

(help bring the rockets back into the playoffs, 13in33, and his always elevated playoff performances)

    far outweighs the negatives

(saying stupid **** to the media, quitting a few games here and there for no other reason than to be a d******d)

as a basketball and rockets fan.

that's not the same thing, here he is bent over, as if waiting for a pass, he's creating space and still within his 3 pt range..if he catches and steps into his shot he'll almost be at the three line.

This is why, i think, before you join the NBA you must have a degree from a college. All these "kids" get all this money and fame and never learn how to act like a man, and handle yourself in tough situations. Experiences in college can teach you these things.

Each individual in the NBA is a "business". what ever you put into you "game" you can get in return. Lebron & Kobe are a perfect example. There are Brands more than players now. They prob make more money off-court than on court. T-mac had a great brand- his "business" was affected by his actions.

A degree / education can help you better understand yourself as a person, as a business, and as a player.

I'm fine with having disagreements but, as a fan and supporter of this team since 1991, I have no sympathy for a player (much less the BEST/HIGHEST PAID player) on a Rockets team "quitting a few games here and there for no other reason than to be a d******d"

t-mac has been declining noticeably the past couple of seasons... add the fact that he's coming off microfracture surgery, I can almost guarantee we won't be seeing the t-mac of old, that dude is long gone. i'm all for not playing him.

Great article Clutch -- I totally agree -- without a doubt that game was the final nail for him here in Houston.

Have you noticed how many players on our roster are 4 year seniors? There's a reason that they are more mature than those that aren't.

4 year college players on our roster - Chuck, Shane, Aaron, Carl, Taylor, Joey + multiple years overseas in Andersen, Scola, and Yao...

That leaves Tmac (zero), Trev (1 season), Kyle (2 college seasons), and Chase (who had 3 years)

I don't count Brian Cook as a player on the roster ;)

There are the odd exceptions to the rule, but 4 year players seem to be more secure in who they are and accepting the role they are given.

Well, this might make sense if athletes didn't receive special treatment in college. But they do. About a year and a half ago, when I was at Syracuse University, I actually witnessed a conversation with an English professor and a football player in which, despite the fact the football player hadn't turned in a single paper yet and the semester was nearly over, the professor offered to have him just write one paper and he'd have it count for all four papers we were to write that semester. And did I mention our football team was terrible?

Meanwhile, Magic Johnson came out early and (with the exception of his sexual escapades) he handled himself masterfully throughout his career. He has went on to become a business man who, last I read, was worth approximately half a billion dollars. Kobe has done fine (again, with the exception of the affair, but Bill Clinton did that too). Lebron seems to be doing fine. Kevin Garnett seems to have done fine.

I honestly don't think it has anything to do with a college education and everything to do with character. And, incidentally, if you have enough character you don't need a college education to be educated because you'll educate yourself. In terms of education, there is absolutely nothing you can learn in college that you can't learn with a library card. In terms of experience and personal growth, yes, there are things people learn in College that you can't get elsewhere. However, it can just as easily be said that they should all have to work construction for a few years before joining the NBA. Or they should serve in the Military. Because obviously there are lessons you'd learn doing things of those nature that that college kids don't learn either.
