Yeah, he's a Rocket again

He might as well be a spectator with court side seats.

I just want an explanation. I just want a clear explanation. Somebody please. Somebody please give me a sane, reasonable explanation as to why we go out of our way to sign Brooks but he continues to ride the pine behind a over-rated, over-hyped point guard and an arguable D-leaguer.

I'm sorry but if you don't think Brooks could have helped tonight then you are sadly mistaken. Brooks is a veteran point guard who's been in big moments and knows how to win. Play the damn guy! I mean why the hell did you even sign him?!!! Damnit!

It's laughable that Francisco Garcia and Thomas Robinson see minutes when Aaron Brooks doesn't. Tell me in what basketball universe does that make sense.

I called it as soon as we signed him that McHale won't play him.

Beverly is a decent defender but he's contributed 0 points the past couple of games.

On a back to back older guys like Delfino and Garcia don't have the legs. They both were airballing shots. McHale should have used fresh legs like Anderson and Brooks.

SMH at losing to the worst team in the West.

I didn't follow the earlier parts of the discussion, just picking up the last few exchanges. But I get the gist of where the arguments are.

In my humble opinion, I do think it was likely that the Rockets picking up Brooks was a pre-requisite. People were scratching their heads that the Kings gave up TRob for just a $1.5 to #3M savings (depending on the article, and the $1M the Rockets threw-in on the trade). If the Kings saved an extra $2M (Brooks contract next year), would it make more sense?

There was no guarantee AB would have accepted a low buy-out if he had to give up $2M next season, and there was no guarantee anybody would've claimed him off waivers to pick up AB's remaining bills this season if he had just been cut. It was also known that AB wanted to return to the Rockets. And Daryl structured AB's contract to be $2M for 1/3 of the season this year, and $2M for next season, team option, which is not normal.

Morey could've got AB if he wanted to pay AB that salary for next year without the team option, given he traded TD to the Kings (who have 4-5 PGs including AB) and the Kings would've been happy to trade him to the Rockets.

And the Rockets had a hole at 3rd back-up PG, at least as insurance.

And Morey doesn't mind an extra expiring contract next season.

In my opinion, AB won't even be in the Rockets' plans next season. Despite all his shooting prowess, AB doesn't pass well and most importantly is a big liability on defense, so you don't really want to pair him next to Harden (unless the opposing PG is also small or not a scoring option). Next to Lin, maybe, but it would be very situational, when the other team plays a combo guard that Lin can guard.

Let's say Daryl may not have initiated this, but together with the Kings found a way to take AB off their hands, save them an extra $2M or so, but not hamgstrung the Rockets with AB's guaranteed contract next season, so that Morey could land TRob. It may be a loophole, but it's not illegal. Morey's not known to let a loophole get in the way of getting someone he wants (in this case TRob, but related to the CBA, Asik/Lin with the back-loaded contract).
