Chuck's effectiveness has dropped considerably since the beginning of the season. He may be tired or injured, but he's just not all over the other team defensively like he used to. I still hope we keep him for next year as our cooler.

Chuck just looks difference right now, he may be tired, but he did not play so many mins. I still think if he would play his pf position, he would be in much better condition. Hill is doing well on the center position because of his height.

Regardless of Hayes declining numbers, right now the Rockets need him. The only threat he faces in this season is that Hill is improving and may get more playing time. Next season with Yao's return assuming Morey does not get another big man or trade any of ours in the offseason, Hayes will get less time and me be used in specific situations, but he will back up Yao and Scola, unless Hill improves.

Gaining weight during the season, with increased minutes? Thats even tough for Two Sandwiches Hamilton to pull off. Hayes must be doing a lot of off-time therapeutic eating. Didnt think the frustration would be THAT bad.

Though he isnt as trim as in years past . Needed the added bulk to go up against the league's starting centers (the Shawn Kemp excuse).

Hayes seems to be favoring his knee and that has taken away his effectiveness. He needs time to heal but unfortunately there is no time with the season winding down and the team making a last push for a playoff spot.

While I love Chuck like a lot of you guys, the current team we have does not suit him well, gradually I see Hill and Andersen will take up all of Hayes' minutes

I recall that Morey used Chuck as an example when discussing adjusted +/- stats (either in a radio interview or at the MIT conference, not sure which maybe someone elsse recalls). Morey said that one of the issues of adjusted +/- is that this may well depend on whether a guy is playing a role suitable to him. He said that Chuck, for example, has great +/- when employed in specific matchups foro the purpose of shutting down certain scorers. On the other hand, his adjusted +/- don't look too great if employed as a general purpose player, particularly when you ask him to guard 7 footers every day.

I think Morey would like to keep Hayes, all things being equal, so that he can be employed in those 10-12 minute roles that he was great at in the past years with Yao around. However, of course he's a movable piece just like anyone else on the team and the team is paying luxury tax, so they'll have to determine whether they want to pay double his salary to keep him around or throw his minutes at Jordan Hill or Jared Jeffries.

Scola has been rebounding like a madman, when hayes is in and scola isnt, then hill is in who also rebounds very well.

All other Rockets, in the past to the present, from Stevie, Yao, Tmac, Brooks, Kmart ... all down the line, get bashed by the fans for their deficiency.

With Chuck, no matter how bad he plays, people still find ways to make excuses for him.
If you can say thing like Chuck is put in a bad situation, he is too short, he has to play taller players, it's ok that he gets out-rebounded., he boxes out so Scola can get the rebound ...

Why don't you say the same for Yao or that Yao is too slow, it's ok that other PF drives past him or Tmac (Stevie, Brooks) needs the ball in his hand to be effective, it's ok for him to hold/ dribble the ball to make plays ...

Don't tell me it's because Chuck isn't paid a lot, he is not required to do a lot. You guys bash Andersen or other underpaid Rockets in the past just as bad. It's just amazing.

Personally I just think Chuck is being nice....you don't want to make your teammates look to bad. Chuck and his badassery.

Yeah, I like Chuck as player and view guys like him very important to successful teams.

That being said, NBA is a professional league, not some recreational league for 7-year old kids where everybody gets to play, score is not counted and trying hard and having fun is the most important thing. So Chuck doesn't get any sympathy votes from me for having to battle bigger guys all the time.

Hope he gets out of his recent funk soon(2.6 rebounds in 17 minutes in March). Then again, maybe he is injured, he is not the type give excuses for himself.

I never really liked chuck, he's a decent player but he's a center trapped in a small forward's body.

Chuck is wearing down, playing the power game will wear you out over 82 games. Especially the knees and legs. The pushing wears you out quickly. I think Chuck is suffering from that, in addition, players are adjusting by getting the ball high to prevent the Chuck slap move. Robin Lopez was abusing him in the paint by keeping the ball hight.

Ariza has a better rebounding average than Hayes right now. Not sure if that says more about Ariza or Hayes.

I think the constant beating he takes having to guard much bigger players is taking a toll on him. I can see Hill and Andersen minutes increasing and Hayes decreasing for the remainder of this year.

Next year, I see Morey getting a true backup C and Hayes moving to backup PF, which would be a much better fit.

Chuck is human, he sees what is going on, and he knows his contract is pretty much up.

Don't you guys think that will have some impact on his play?

imo total rebound percentage is garbage... it all depends on if you have the ability(including height) to and the want to get the ball(you can tell by watching players if they don't have the extra energy to jump or run to a ball they still go after it).

Who cares what percentage he should/have been getting. It's all about getting the BALL. Rebounds are rebounds those are the numbers and the numbers for rebounds do not lie.

With that said Chuck Hayes is declining in rebounds because he's playing the center position. Boxing out a 7' center is a little different than boxing out a 6'9" power forward. His height is already a disadvantage at the power forward position while playing center will do the opposite to a player.
