I keep hearing he can play defense. I never considered Luther Head a good defender.

Does this trade make Indiana better than new York now? Perhaps our picks just got better?

    Well, lets see.

    Collison/Ford
    Dunleavy/Rush/Jones/Stephonson
    Granger/Posey/George
    Hansborough/McRoberts
    Hibbert/Foster

    vs.

    Felton/Douglas
    Chandler/Mason
    Gallinari/Walker/Azubuike
    Amare/Randolph
    Turiaf/Curry/Mozgov

Its a toss up, but I think NY will have a better record, but if Granger is at the top of his game, I think Indiana might sneak in the playoffs.

I agree 100% on Ariza. People here still thinks he's a potential all-star. But the reality is that he is a starter type roleplayer at best. I hate tmac but look at him for example. He left toronto to have a much bigger role in Orlando and he excelled in his first year. He had the making of an all-star. Not so much with Ariza.

I never got why posters on CF got the idea that he was an All-Star. DM said it at the very beginning that even if Ariza does not pan out to be the scorer that they envisioned him to be, just his level of defense alone made him worth his contract. Now DM found a player of comparable talent who costs significantly less that also provides us depth and a much better shooting touch and did what any good GM would do, jump on the opportunity. The fact that Courtney Lee was a player that they had been targeting and that he came with a $6.3 million TE makes it all the more sweeter.

Ariza is not that great. He is marginally better than Courtney Lee only right now, but Lee's upside is MUCH better than Ariza as he is a better shooter and has much better handles. We saved money, got a pretty big TE, and got a player who is comparable now and should be much better as time goes on.

Why are some of you worried about defense? Lee was magic's starting SG and their best perimeter defender at the time and the magic was what? #1 or #2 in the league in defense that year? Have some faith, Lee playing in the 2nd unit will be fine and he could play more when we're facing kobe, dwade instead of kmartin.

    09/10

    C. Lee
    PER 12.8, TS% 0.525, eFG% 0.485, DRtg 111

    T. Ariza
    PER 13.3, TS% 0.488, eFG% 0.462, DRtg 106

So we got a better shooter/scorer for sure, and one that will work in Adelman's system. We got more of a defensive option at the 2, without really losing much talent there. We did get shorter and less "long" (in the basketball sense.)

Beyond the money issue, which is enormous and well-chronicled in this thread, we also, by all accounts, got someone who's got more b-ball savvy and is less prone to anger flare ups (remember those?)

Seems like an awesome trade overall to me. But best wishes to Trevor -- no ill will for him. He was put in an awkward position and is best next to a drive-capable superstar (Kobe and now CP3.) He gets more spot up options that way and can sweep in behind the drives to crash the boards.

Well said. I am somewhat concerned about defending bigger 3's like LeBron. I'm not sure if Lee will be able to. We won't have the two headed monster of Battier-Artest or Battier-Ariza to throw at elite wings anymore.

They're in deep trouble if Hansbrough gets injured. McRoberts is doodoo.

I'm assuming Tyler is healthy but I think he still suffers from vertigo.

Tyler suffers from the confusion of learning that basketball is NOT the sport where you get to shoot ten automatic free throws each game.

Here are some spider-graphs taken from the 2008-2009 regular season for Courtney Lee and Trevor Ariza (included with Kobe and Hedo):
