Maybe Morey has another trade in place involving Jared Jeffries... so this deal would make sense

It is all about contrast and options for Adelman, Lowry is a great contrast at the PG spot to Brooks, and so is Lee to Martin....

While Ariza and Battier are fairly similar and when you add in Budinger all of the skillsets are covered with Shane and CBud that you would have with Trevor in the mix.

I think that the team is smartly moving people before minutes get to be a problem.

Well, all of that, and getting under the tax....

    :)

PS. Jeffries is also a decent defensive minded SF.

...and Alexander's willingness to pay the LT remains in question...

Based upon what this team will need (perimeter defense) when clicking on all cylinders, Ariza is the MUCH better fit.

That said, if the goal is to cut salary and lessen the LT hit then I understand the logic behind the move. It doesn't really do Morey's reputation any good by essentially labeling his biggest FA acquisition a complete and utter mistake, but at least he rectifies that mistake by snagging us a near equal talent in return all the while saving a few bucks.

Overall, I definitely understand the logic and we could do a lot worse. I still think this move makes little sense for New Orleans, though. For that reason, I have a hard time believing this proposal is realistic from their end.

On the bright side Morey realized Ariza was a mistake, and quickly made changes

This is why no big name free agent wants to come.

We continue to treat the majority of our players like trash.

    ROFLMAO.....

    Trash, really?

Come on, it is a business, they know the drill.......it is not like the NFL where they get cut and don't get paid.

Les is not the one that said they would be definitly paying.....Morey is the guy that said that I believe.

Ariza is better than Lee right now. He's the perfect for this team, why are we trading him?

Is NO that desperate to dump Posey's salary that they'd throw in a promising Darren Collison? Insane.

This is a purely financial move for Houston, and it sucks.

DD, if this goes down its all about getting under the luxury tax and you know it. According to Morey teams have been calling alot for Ariza.

if this SALARY DUMP deal goes down as reported with no follow-up move thereafter which might possibly help it make any basketball sense, then i hereby pledge to plaster this forum with my disgust at les' steadfast cheapness until he finally sells the team.

Lee's a better player than Ariza, much more skilled offensively.

Why does New Orleans do this? Collison is their stud PG that is there to replace CP3. Ariza is a similar player to Ariza on a shorter contract. Hmmm...

    Does CP3 want Collison gone?

Agreed. This trade is awful, and Courtney Lee is trash.

Looks like a good deal to me. I thought Lee was a great defender and shooter when he played for Orlando. Seems like a slightly younger/better shooting version of Ariza who also happens to be much cheaper and since we are in the luxury tax, that could potentially save us $10million. You lose a little length with Lee, but he's a great fit at the SG spot if maybe not big enough to play the 3 like Ariza. I don't think this is a pure basketball move though - seems pretty clear to me this is a salary dump with some losses minimized because Lee can do some of the things Ariza can. Ariza is probably more valuable overall but I don't think he is worth $10 mil more to us.

...Morey must really be high on C-bud/Battier at the 3.

...pretty good deal for NO if you ask me - they get the guy they thought they were getting with Posey and hopefully gives Paul some hope so he can stay. Indy has been wanting a PG forever so it's a great deal for them...not sure why the Nets want Murphy but I suppose a stretch 4 isn't a bad thing to have.

I like C lee.. hes a better offensive player than ariza. His D is acceptable.. Hes been with at the very top with Orlando and the very bottom with New Jersey. Hes heading into his third year and thats when most players blossom.. Wouldnt mind it at all.
