Man the Rockets just cant even give Battier away.

But seriously, we just traded an overpaid in-effecient player from a position we are stacked in for a younger, cheaper, more effecient player in a position we are weak in.

    Unbelievablely good trade.

REALLY??? That's the embodiment of Holliger right there. New Jersy, of all places, ending up with a worse record :p

    Well done, that was funny

Yeah im slowly starting to warm up to the trade. I think the thing that made me so mad is that I just got an Ariza jersey for Christmas.

I dont think I'm buying a rockets jersey for a while.

Budinger will get the majority of the minutes at SF.

What does the depth chart look like now?

    Yao/Brad/Chuck
    Scola/Hill/Patterson
    Battier/Chase/Martin
    Martin/Lee/Taylor
    Brooks/Lowry/Ish Smith?

I guess that dribbling video of Budinger just got 50x more relevant.

Hindsight would of also told them on the NJ nets team VC had to carry the load.

For the stacked Orlando Magics, they must of knew VC wasn't going to average those numbers with Nelson, Dwight Howard, Lewis while being 1 year older into his mid 30's........

On face value this trade doesn't appear to be all that even for Houston. However I do believe that beyond the salary dump it does set the team up to be able to make a trade for an all-star player down the road. I'm guessing that if we have a chance of trading for CP3 or Carmelo at the trade deadline, Kevin Martin will have to be included in the trade and perhaps AB as well. I'm sure Morey has already spoke to the GM's about who they would be interested in if it got to that point. So if this trade goes through it allows the Rockets to have the replacements already on the roster for K-Mart and AB.

Remember, Morey is always thinking 2 or 3 steps ahead and this will provide the team with more leverage if a blockbuster trade opportunity presents itself. There is the risk that the opportunity never presents itself. However, you have to take calculated chances sometimes.

Wow... that's a great trade for Indiana.

But honestly, I think this makes the team better. Battier takes Ariza's place in the starting lineup. That gives the starting lineup a more consistent spot-up 3-point shooter, while maintaining a similar level of defensive capabilities from the SF spot.

And getting Lee will give the bench a decent scorer that can run with Lowry and Budinger.

Courtney Lee is too small to play defense against the bigger wings (i.e. Kobe) though. Oh well.

I think you nailed it.....leaving Harris and Johnson as cuts......

Looks like a good solid roster top to bottom.

It doesn't make the team better and you can pub chase as much as you like. I like chase too, but this isn't the trade you make to get chase more minutes if thats your feeling. This was a pure salary dump and that can't be undersold. Now he goes to the hornets and he will be alot better with paul at the point. I guess all in means all in our a$$e$ at the end of the day.

    The options that Ariza had

Cleveland - Not such a great place to play now.
Stay in L.A. - He left because he felt disrespected by what he was offered or something but he accepted what Houston gave him which was about the same L.A. offered him.
Portland - I think he had an offer for them.

Either way I doubt Houston begged him to come and they didn't hold a gun to his head and tell to accept. He made a decision which was a bad one from the get go considering he won a Championship in L.A. and they offered the same contract that Houston did.
