    ariza gone = great move.

even morey is admitting this was one of his worst moves as a GM, and there have been very few.

he has bigger aspirations than just being a role player, and there's just no room for him to do that here.

i like the guy though. good guy.

I would have like to see some picks involved, but saving $10 million this year is a big deal for the franchise, maybe they can now go back to buying extra picks.

Trevor was a decent player, and Lee is too......both would probably have been backups this season.....we need a backup SG more than we need an argument over who gets minutes at an overcrowded SF position.

This move saves money, makes the roster more flexible, allows the team to feature players they may want to move later for a superstar, and clears up some potential issues with minutes.

A quality move by Morey, IMO.

People were going "WTF" when we traded Alston for little known Lowry. Battier and C-bud are as efficient as they come and play within themselve's and the system.

We're also getting someone special for the future with the money being saved. Never underestimate Morey. While some may think of only 1 or 2 steps... Morey is thinking at least 5 steps ahead of all of us.

This thread is really funny to me. It reads almost exactly like the one on draft night when we picked Aaron Brooks over the big men who were still available. Or the one when we traded Rafer Alston for Kyle Lowry. And you know what? I'd be willing to bet that many of the people critical of this trade can be found criticizing those moves in the threads about them. They still haven't learned - Morey is smarter than us.

This is one of those typical Morey trades. At first it seems at best a lateral move then you start looking at it some more.

I'm not an Ariza hater. I do feel like he tried to do too much (at the team's behest) in the early going, but then he steadied his game when Martin came on board. He was better, but it's not as if he set the world on fire. He was steady. Ariza had filled that role before on a championship squad, but any player is going to have better stats playing off Kobe. I think he could have been productive this season for the Rockets, but I'm not devastated by his departure (just like Rafer).

I like the Lee trade. He's another player Morey has long coveted. He drives more than Ariza, and Morey has placed a priority on drawing fouls with Lowry, Martin, and Yao. Morey has often said Yao is the best offensive player in the NBA when the Rockets are in the penalty. This means Daryl has to be placing a priority on players who will put their head down and drive instead of jacking from the outside.

Stan Van Gundy has raved about Lee's defense, and that will be a nice addition. Ariza was a gambling defensive player. Great when he gets the steal or deflection. Not so good when the player gets by him and gets the big men in foul trouble. Now, Adleman can go all offense with Martin and Budinger or all defense with Battier and Lee. I like the flexibility this affords the team.

As others have said, it's also a matter of better roster management. We essentially had 3 SF's and 1 SG (2 if Taylor is active). Now we subtract Ariza and have 2 solid SG's on the roster.

Money is a huge part of this. Les has agreed to pay the Luxury Tax, but if Morey can better the team and save him 10 million, I have to think that Les would be pretty damn ecstatic. And of course there's also the matter of the next 3 years after this one that we would have to pay Ariza.

I fully expect to see Lee become an important cog on this Rocket team. Our bench is going to be fast, attacking, and defensive. I look forward to seeing a Lowry-Lee backcourt playing with Brad Miller, Chase and the PF of the day.

    In Morey We Trust

Would have been interesting to see how Ariza played with Yao back, but Courtney is better trade bait than Trevor, and I think Morey has his eyes on bigger fish. This assumes, of course, that Courtney can deliver.

too bad we couldn't see Trevor with a full lineup for a year. I think he would have been better this year and was looking forward to it.

Disagree. Lee is actually a decent player not a scrub at all. Ariza is streaky and Lee will contribute and get a fair amount of minutes.

Ariza did turn his game around last year right at the end of the season, best wishes to him on his new team.

This trade is horrible all it shows is that the Rockets aren't serious about winning. This was strictly a move to save money! I'm glad I didn't get suckered into buying a ticket package this year!
