Guys, this is a great move for us. We did not want to be tethered to Ariza's long contract, especially if Yao gets hurt again. It doesn't hurt us this year, as Battier is hardly a step down, and Martin will get hurt again this year. This is a wise move. Lee is a rising star at the 2 (and he plays great defense; something we don't currently have at the 2).

I'm going to laugh when this deal helps us end up netting us a huge name at the deadline.

You guys are far too short-sighted.

Trevor Ariza is a marginal player at best. We shed payroll and get rid of Ariza's contract, nothing could be better for the future of the team.

Think bigger picture. Morey is always one step ahead.

Lee 3yrs-$7mil vs. Ariza 4yrs-$28...if he morey likes them similarly, then no-brainer.

    Salary saving move?

Hate to see Trevor go just to free salary but I like Lee. I pray we can snag CP3 or Granger.

I guess Morey feels comfortable with starting Martin and Battier, and pairing up Lee with Bud off the bench? I still would've liked to see Ariza start with Yao.

The only thing I take comfort in now is knowing Ariza will probably be happier with CP3 and getting up and down the court than he would be with us. Though this does mean his quest for getting another ring is going to wait for quite some time.

This is really a bitter pill to swallow. It's a move I never would have expected from Morey and I just think it's stupid. I love Budinger as much as the next guy but he's really not as big a stud as everyone is making him out to be, at least not without a bit longer to develop.

I stand by my assertion that we should have given Ariza one more year before making this move. I'm so disappointed in Rockets management right now but I can only think that Morey has shown us to always be a step or two ahead. I certainly hope that he didn't misplace his chess piece this time.

I think Ariza's probably a good guy and I tend to like him personally, in as much as a fan can "like" someone they don't know personally.

But he's the only guy in our rotation that I'm not sorry to see go. He just doesn't seem to really fit here. He seems a little stiff, physically and otherwise, for Adelman-ball. Any other rotation player and I'd be really sorry even if we got something good in return. But I can't say I'll miss Ariza.

This is apparently more of an Ariza for cap relief trade than Ariza for Lee. Lee seems to just be a bonus and he does balance our roster a little better. I certainly don't think Taylor was ready to be backup SG.

Looks like a good trade to me.

    HELL YES !!!!

Now we have both Jeffries and Battier as expiring contracts along with Brooks and Ming.....

And lots more flexibility moving forward at the trade deadline and after in case Yao's foot is not healthy.

This was a great move, they corrected a mistake where they overpaid a player they thought could blossom and picked up a better basketball player in the 2nd round that is only 22 years old and fits in better anyway.

Great move by Morey...on the biz side as well as the roster side.

Can someone do a breakdown of Lee's game? Someone who's seen him play enough to know exactly what we're getting.

If you agree with 1 and 2 then rest assure 3 and 4 will figure itself out with Morey at the helm.

Due to being able to save 5+ mil in getting rid of Ariza that leaves us with much more flexibility to sign/trade for a much better/effiectient 3. Even if we don't get that SF right away it leaves us with options/better chances of acquiring a stud sf for the future. Think Iggy, Granger, Melo etc.

I'm not sure where this insane amount of praise for JT you're talking about is coming from? If there is praise for him floating around I certainly am not gullable enough to believe any of it. He reminds me of Kirk Snyder Version 2.0

Hope you guys don't end up eating your words.

Remember the last time we traded a starter for a "back up"? That turned out to be a better move than many of us expected and that was not a deal based on just saving money.

Lee has game, Ariza was nice but too expensive for his deficiencies on offense when we have Battier and a rising Budinger, who needs to work on his defense.

    Overall good move by Morey.
