I am thinking a little differently, this worked under realgm trade checker. Trade Anderson and Marcus Smart to NY, Carmelo to Houston and Non guaranteeds to Boston.

I'm thinking the Rockets need to do something by 07/06/17(tomorrow) with Ryan Kelly contract.

Certain time on July 7th it becomes guaranteed.

    "Leverage" on Knicks

Ya I was thinking Crowder + Anderson but which ever the Knicks want is fine. Theyll probably want a 2nd rounder or a 1st though

was talking to a die hard knicks fan today, who is convinced that they need to cut the chord with Melo in order to truly start the rebuilding process. The general sentiment is that the fans see him as almost a negative asset. As in, they know the contract is big, they know he's selfish and controversial, they know he's on the decline, and they just want to move on.

Obviously as a good GM, Mills will want to extract maximum value, but the fans are tired of the Melo era and they want to turn the page. You gotta think the GM is feeling some pressure to make a move. But if ownership is behind him, they truthfully don;'t have to do anything. They can wait till the deadline to move Melo; they aren't going anywhere. and Melo's trade destination demands could change depending on what happens during the season.

If i'm new york, i'm waiting on the right opportunity to deal Melo; and dealing him as a salary dump should be a last resort. They don't have to do that on our timeline.

Crowder could become really special in this system. He almost shot 40% from 3 last year and is a beast defensively. Adding him would make our wing rotation really deep. I know it hurts, but I wouldn't mind throwing in our 2020 first as sweetener with the NGs for him.

Bradley is a lot less valuable because of his contract.

Yes, Melo has an "early termination option" for 2018/19. So Melo can walk away from NY and leave them high n dry
after this season. So they can trade him now or at the trade deadline. Houston might want to use Ryan Kellys
contract while it's has non-guaranteed status. Melo named two teams to waive the "no trade option. Melo could
keep it in place and stick it to the Knicks until seasons end.

So I've gone from Knicks will blink. To Rockets have to do something by July 6th (Knicks have the leverage).
To now the Rockets have an option.

So given that we are up against the clock with those non-guaranteed contracts, do you think Morey will go in a different direction if it becomes clear the Knicks are gonna wait, and rent out that cap space for assets (assuming there's even a market with other teams trying to do the same thing)?

this is where that 2018 first rounder we very surprisingly gave up to LAC would really come in handy

I think the Knicks need to be careful in holding out too long. With only two teams he's willing to go to, their options are limited. A three way with Boston and us may be their best chance to get some value from Melo. I think Anderson and Pozingas can play together and also spell each other a bit. If they can add Smart and a pick(s) that may be worth cutting the cord.

The $11m was an original estimation based upon Morey's post-Paul presser where he talked quite vaguely about the NGs for the first time....and before the NG contract numbers were known to most. That $11m grew some legs, but it's off by $1.25m.

Since then, many ppl have run the numbers on the four contract (Taylor, Long, Kelly and Quakerman) to all agree that the "TPE" is $9.75m. If you add Onuaku's guaranteed contract to that, then you can trade for $11.8m back...you hear that number a lot, too. But the amount of trade value that can be cut by the receiving team for $0 (thus acting identical to a TPE) is the sum of the NGs times 175% plus $100k = $9.75m.

also, $2.5m of that 9.75m goes away on July 7th, as Kelly's contract becomes guaranteed or he gets cut.

Been thinking this for awhile. Boston's best chance to win the title is to actually face the Rockets vs GSW, so help us. Even a 7 game series helps Boston.

id put morey in that class too.

However, i would not put kevin pritchard in that class lmao. I know paul george put him in a bind but that trade was ridiculous lol. Reports say he had multiple chances throughout the previous season and before the draft to get cheap young players and picks.

Not overpaid young players and no picks lol

They are definitely in the best place to contend long term. Which other team got to ECF and still got the no 1 pick? LOL Celtics should erect a monument to Billy King, that dumbass.

Ainge is not in a hurry to dump his stash of picks because he can just trade these other guys for more picks. 2020 lotto pick for Crowder maybe some team with a desperate GM bites on that to save his job. It's the same schtick Belichick uses to run circles around the NFL GMs he got a pick years ago and then keeps trading down+1 additional pick every draft.
