Are you sure that it was not JFK Jr. in a Reagan suit? Be careful how you answer. Jewish Space Lasers are watching this thread closely.
Got to love Lindsay Graham and the GOP wanting to go all bi-partisan on the pick and pick the most big biz pleasing black female possible. lol
One more thought on this and then I promise I'll go do my work. The 'consider all candidates' argument makes a plea to be fair to all the potential justices out there. This is for the Supreme Court. I'm not interested in being fair to would-be Supreme Court Justices. This is one of the most powerful positions in the world; and being a federal court judge is a pretty cushy consolation prize too. I want to be fair to Americans. And yeah you need someone who can do a good job in the role. But it isn't fair to Americans if the highest court doesn't reflect the diversity of our society, and is instead just an echo chamber of all the most meritorious people who went to all the best schools, were presidents of all the right clubs, clerked under the right Justices, were editors of all the right journals, and thought all the right thoughts. If some federal judge gets passed over because he's too meritorious, it was never about him anyway. Nobody deserves this job.
Coldest front of the year headed for Texas and you're in here discussing politics... go secure our energy infrastructure or any blackouts are on you.
Reagan was a plant by Stalin and Soros who were doing the bidding of the Kenyan Brotherhood of Evil. Bro Jogan interviewed a guy who said it was true. Fax.
Were all of you so concerned about "qualification" when President Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett? She had been a judge for less than three years before being appointed to the Supreme Court and a professor at Notre Dame before that. From what I can tell, Ketanji Brown Jackson has served on the federal bench for nearly 8 years. Should more people of Barrett's pedigree be considered, too?
Why Amy Coney Barrett got a 'well qualified' rating from ABA standing committee https://www.abajournal.com/news/art...-qualified-rating-from-aba-standing-committee excerpt: Lawyers and judges who spoke with the ABA Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary had high praise for Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett. Barrett is “an intellectual giant” with a “staggering academic mind” who is “decent, selfless and sincere.” She has a “stellar judicial temperament” who shows no sarcasm in her questioning. That kind of praise led the ABA standing committee to conclude that Barrett met the highest standards of integrity, professional competence and judicial temperament, the three criteria used in its ratings of federal judicial nominees. more at the link
It's hypocrisy all around. When a GOP administration only selects candidates from a pre-approved list created by the Federalist society based on opinions on subjects like abortion, are they not narrowing their selection filter to a point where the absolute best qualified person on the planet might be automatically eliminated? But I'm sure they never thought about it in that way. Maybe it's their deepest most inner thoughts coming out: "of course the best qualified human will be on our narrowed down lost pre-approved by the Federalist society." Also : "narrowing your list to only black females means you won't find the most qualified individual". It's a projection of their inner most darkest racist beliefs.
I'm not complaining about Biden now. He can use whatever criteria he wants for his SCOTUS pick. I was responding directly to the idea that there is something wrong with meritocracy, and that good enough should be the standard employed, either in SCOTUS picks or in education admissions. Sure, but then don't pretend otherwise. The response should be we are more concerned with representation (or ideology or whatever other criteria are being used) than picking the best candidate. For me, the criterion most important is a greater fealty to the text of the Constitution than to any other considerations, such as public policy or stare decisis. Then you haven't been paying attention. Are you suggesting there cannot be a black female candidate on a list curated by the Federalist Society?
You still believe in the magical notion that there is one singular human best candidate? Do you think you are the best human on the planet at your current job? Are you the most qualified on the planet? A more apt and relevant question would be "is x candidate qualified to perform their duties as a JC justice in a competent, fair and admirable manner?"
