Nice goal.. When was the last time the best-qualified person was ever nominated? Supreme court nomination was and is never about who is best qualified. It's a political pick by a politician that is then approved or rejected by the Senate. If the goal is the best qualified, it should be done by some "elite" members of non-partisan Constitutional experts that are much better at judging qualifications than a single politician or group of politicians. I fully support a change to move nomination power to such a body and away from politicians. Would you?
So, were the dozens of white men chosen prior to any minority immoral because for many decades only white men were considered.
Yes, he did. For SC Justice, Trump considered Daniel Cameron (black), James Ho (Asian, who was appointed to Federal Judge by Trump), Amul Thapar (Indian who was elevated to 6 Circuit Court by Trump)... and he also considered 13 women, appointing one of them. But you're deflecting. As I've said before, it's wrong for ANY president to exclude any candidate from consideration based on race or gender. To do so is the definition of racism and sexism. WE CANNOT FIGHT RACISM WITH MORE RACISM!
Replying a second time.. And why is it that so many want to stop racism once whites have been able to take advantage of racism for a long time?
If other qualified candidates were excluded from consideration because of their skin color, then the selection in those cases was wrong and racist.
It truly amazes me to see people assume racism from previous times, while ignoring it when it's open and explicit right in front of them. Absolutely incredible. I ask you - do you think it's right for Biden to openly and proudly exclude SC candidates based on their race and gender?
Ya it's crazy. 200+ years of this country existing and not a single black woman has every been a SC judge even with the significantly larger population of Black women in the US than your gotcha examples (Asian women etc).
Can I just say something. I'm 90% sure you are trolling in the sense that you understand why people are sincerely wanting a black female judge. You understand the combination of disproportionate bigotry black women have faced and the fact that they compromise a larger percentage of Americans than the other groups you mentioned before as a excuse not to chose one(Asian woman, Native American woman etc). Even if you are some abject white supracist, you very well know these things already. So are you just trolling labeling people wanting a black woman as a SC judge racism? Are you purposefully ignoring the actual racism black women have faced the past 300 years in this country?
Do you think it's right for Biden to openly and proudly exclude SC candidates based on their race and gender?
Sure if we have to buy into your disingenuous framing. Do you think it's right to be openly proud to exclude a significant demographic, Black women, from being a SC judge for 200+ years? Do you think in those 200+ years, there never was a qualified black woman? Do you think that is the case?
In every era, the elites always justified their racial inequality positions. Yesterdays Old White Male is todays Black Female. And yet these same people wonder why we have such a poor turnout come election time.
But that isn't how humans work. There isn't a "most qualified". There is a pool of people that are qualified. It's a combination of who is qualified and who aligns with your views the most. Let's put it this way. Let's ignore whether you agree with them politically... Do you think there isn't a single black female out there that can't perform the duties of a JC judge with excellence?
As I've said MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE... I am not opposed to having a black female SC judge. I am not ignoring the racism that black women {(and men) have faced the past 300 years in the country. I'm saying we CAN'T fight racism with more racism. If you exclude qualified candidates because they're latino or native american, or Inidian, you're being racist. It's that simple. Joe Biden is doing exactly that. Do you, or do you not, think it's wrong for Biden to exclude candidates from consideration based on their race and gender?
