Well I didn't start listening to music in 97 but I can definitely hear bands like Sonic Youth , Jesus and Mary Chain and even U2 in Radioheads music .. I know a lot of RH fans accuse other bands of copying their sound but pretty much everyone is influenced by someone .
Wow, the only thing worse than current hipsters are historical hipsters. I was into U2 until I heard the second verse of "I Will Follow" on Boy.
Sometimes, the masses are right- Who's Next is the best Who album, Rumours is the best Fleetwood Mac album, etc. Sometimes, they're not. Sgt. Pepper is not the best Beatles album, nor is Led Zeppelin IV the best Zeppelin album. IMHO. Lyrically, Achtung is the best they've ever done, and that comes straight from Paul Hewson himself. Plus, I feel it's the most important because, without it, it's very possible that U2 would have been stuck in their 80s sound and would have suffered the fate of many 70s and 80s groups who could not adjust to the 90s. That they reinvented their sound and still made a kick-a** CD allowed them to maintain popularity in the 90s and beyond. Again, just my opinion.
Not hipster breh, they just fell out of favor with me after the Joshua Tree. Never liked the direction or the music they put out after that. Joshua Tree is still a top 10 album for me though.

Those are all prior to them getting clean and making their comeback . Like two different bands to me and the new aerosmith did become more of a chick band
Not the band so much, but I don't understand extreme tool fans. "I'm smarter than you because I listen to tool" While they fail out of high school and continue waiting tables because they can't pass a piss test. The bands ok, but why put them on the same level as a great band, like Radiohead?
