Dirty Projectors. I just don't get the love for this band. I find them annoying and their music just puts me in a pissed off mood. I know that moes is a big fan, so that probably adds to my dislike for them.
I will admit that I do like the song How Soon Is Now?. Mainly because of the amazing guitar work. Love that oscillating buzzsaw chord he plays throughout.
I hear ya - I have a couple of their albums and can't get into them right now. Used to be the same way with Animal Collective and Sonic Youth but got into both of them. However, I don't know if the "light" will ever come on for me with the Dirty Projectors.
I was there, (edit) it was February of 1976. Yeah, they always tore the place down! In 1972, the Kinks played the Music Hall (they played the Music Hall a lot) and Steely Dan opened. No one knew who the hell they were (Steely Dan), which wasn't unusual (3 or 4 bands playing at a concert wasn't unusual at all, and sometimes we got "surprised" by a group we hadn't heard much about... surprised as in, "Hey! They're good!"). Steely Dan was actually billed third, and I can't remember who was billed second. Must not have made an impression. I went to so many concerts that they almost run together. The tickets were so cheap. Cheap Trick could have named themselves "Cheap Ticket!" ;-)-
The Kinks and Cheap Trick on a double bill in the 70s??? Seriously, that would be like having tickets to Game 7 of the 1994 Finals or Game 4 of 1995 (well, at least close to that).
I don't blame you. The group forgotten... Spoiler <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/h80TUy-z-E4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Or then there's the bands that you get that a lot don't- you know, the ones on the fringe of popularity like Squeeze, etc. Mine was and is The Smithereens. Any band who earns the respect of the Ramones has to be doing something right, right? (from 3:40 to 7:30 on this vid clip): <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/lHIDdwHKFBg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Same. I can't get into Dirty Projectors or even Animal Collective. I've tried several times (over 10) to listen to their music, but it never clicks for me. Let me add Vampire Weekend to this list as well. I saw them at this past SXSW and walked out during half the show to see another band. I was never able to get into Youth Lagoon but after I saw his live show last SXSW I was hooked. He performed again this year, and I got to meet the lead singer Trevor Powers. He was real chill.
Well, I would rather have had the tickets to the Finals, but yeah, they were! :-D- You think that's good? How about Jethro Tull, Joe Cocker, and Fleetwood Mac, all on the same bill, and playing at the Music Hall in December of 1969! I was there, and man, that was one of the best concerts I've been to. It was like they were all determined to out do each other. Good god almighty, that was a night! Tickets were $6.50 each for the best seats, and $6.50 was an expensive ticket in 1969. People actually grumbled about it. I can remember overhearing dudes complaining about how much they had to spend to take their chicks out for the the evening. One fellow talking to another guy said (not kidding, cause this stuck in my altered brain for some reason after all these years), "She was b****in' about going to Prince's for burgers, rings, and a malt before the show, and here I am shelling out $13 bucks for tickets! Better be good... that's all I've got to say." I couldn't help myself. I told my date to hold up for a sec, and tapped the cat on the shoulder, telling him, "You DO know who we're seeing tonight, don't you? Yeah, it's a hell of a lot of bread, but dude! You can't be serious! Any one of those bands is worth $6 bucks for the best seats." I mean, really! And Prince's on South Main was pretty damn good back then. Great lookin' chicks taking your order, hanging the tray on your window, the malts in a glass, the stainless steel thingy holding the extra malt. Looking around at the crowd, seeing who you knew that was there that night. No one's face stuck in a "smart phone." People, you know, interacting with each other. Not the worst place to take a date before a concert. OK, not the best, either, but tasty! The dude had no grounds for complaining, in my humble opinion.
Some good discussions, maybe opening people's eyes a bit to stuff they didn't care for before. There's a clear difference between "hating" a band and "not getting" a band. I don't get Radiohead, but I can appreciate their artistry. I listened to Fake Plastic Trees that someone else posted and it still can't generate a "whoa" response in my body. I see lots of bands listed here that I love (Black Keys, White Stripes, Outkast, Jay Z, and Rush to name a few). A few more I can't get into are The Who, Aesop Rock, Common (Sense), and like others have mentioned, Bruce Springsteen.
Festival at Texas Stadium: INXS, Guns N Roses, Iggy Pop, Ziggy Marley, The Smithereens Texas Jam at the Astrodome: Rush, Ozzy Osbourne, 38 Special, Bryan Adams (ugh, he sucked), and Gary Moore.
Nice! OK, here's a couple back at ya... Jefferson Airplane, Grateful dead, The Byrds, and Poco on the same bill at the Coliseum in October of 1969. Quicksilver Messenger Service, ZZ Top, and the Allman Brothers, same bill, same venue, in June of 1971.
OK, I was trying to stay with concerts of more than 2 groups, but no longer! Limited, of course, to concerts we went to. - February 18, 1968 at the Music Hall: Jimi Hendrix - with The Moving Sidewalks, Neal Ford & The Fanatics, and Soft Machine. July 10, 1968 at the Coliseum: The Doors - with The Moving Sidewalks (soon to become ZZ Top, of course)
I was there. Plus I saw Linda Ronstadt at Six Flags Over St. Louis in like 1981. So let's not get hasty.
