Thats why Orlando is playing. He is a pest to pitchers. he knocks away every pitch till he finds one he wants to hit. He always has quality at bats, and really makes the pitcher work. WHOOO! nice Adam!
Yep and it was really nice to see him lay off that 2 strike slider that was off the plate the pitch before his single.
Adam!! You knew that pitch was coming .. he freaking throws it every 0-2 count and its NEVER for a strike. Rain looks like its starting to get heavier and heavier They better get this whole game in especially with a great start like this.
not that it won't work here but it's like they just throw a dart at a board to determine when they'll issue an intentional walk. and adam pulls the classic watch the first 2 down the middle then decide patience isn't a virtue and swing at the obvious curve ball in the dirt.
Wish we got more runs early... but I'm glad we made Smoltz work a little. And most importantly... we weren't shutout in a Clemens start (for which you could probably get even money odds in Vegas).
If they can just lay off the slider and attack the early fastball we could have a good night. 1 run and made Smoltz throw 25 pitches. I'll take it.
Thank God for Lane. Adam Everett is another pitcher in our lineup...I wish Ausmus was batting 7th and Everett 8th...what a wasted opportunity. You have to be WAY more aggressive than that....he had 2 hittable pitches, and let them go by...ugh. GO STROS !! DD
Oh well, that had potential to be HUGE inning...yet again the bases are left JUICED.... But, I'll take that. A run scored in the top of the first is great considering Roger is our pitcher tonight.
no, the 0-2 pitch that you know will be a curve ball on the outside in the dirt is the pitch you wanna swing at apparently.
Well, its a nasty pitch... we see batters swing at Lidge's mess in the dirt all the time... much better batters than Adam Everett, in fact.
Don't forget the defense either. With Lamb at 1st, Berkman plays left and I would call Palmiero an upgrade defensively over Lance right now. For that matter Berkman is a defensive upgrade over Lamb at 1st.
Exactly... Smoltz's slider is just as good as Lidge's. And, he used to throw 97 mph as a starter, and also had a nasty split that caused some of his elbow problems. Frankly, Smoltz's stuff is amazing... and I can't believe he wasted three years away in the bullpen (which could strain your arm even more).
Right now I'd say no. However the minute he dons an Astros cap I would change my tune. Seinfeld was right, we route for laundry.
