It was more of a joke than a criticism. I like Garn and I understand why he put Burke in for Lance, but it's not like he knew Burke was going to win it.
George, george, george of the jungle Strong as he can be Ahhh Watch out for that tree George, george, george of the jungle Lives a life that’s free Ahhh Watch out for that tree When he gets in scrapes When he makes his escapes With the help of his friend An ape named ape Then away he’ll schlep On his elephant shep While fella and ursula Stay in step with George, george, george of the jungle Friend to you and me Ahhh Watch out for that tree Watch out for that (ahhh) (oooh) tree George, george, george of the jungle Friend to you and me
I don't know if Garner has a method to his madness sometimes, but damn it, he did it. He knows this team better than me, and he deserves a hell of a lot of credit.
My, what an invigorating and compelling sporting event that was. A well deserved win by the good guys in red and black. Now, if you'll pardon me, I must go throw up. Bring on the Cards!
oh good, cards series starts on wednesday so plenty of time for wheeler and lidge and rocket to rest up.
WHAT A GAME! WHAT A GAME! AMAZZZZZZZZZING Comeback. The best game I have EVER seen in baseball, period! H-Town baby
This is a team of DESTINY. We will Win it ALL! A different player comes through each and every night; several today - Burke - come on now who seriously thought Burke would have the GWRBI, Ausmus - seriously, who didn't think we threw in the towel at that point. Roger, well, Rogers just Roger - guess it's really no suprise that he came through even after pitching just a couple days ago. This team is Awesome and will do it in '05. Eerily similar to the '94 Rox! (with different players stepping up each night). I Bee Lieve!
My vote for the best baseball game of all time, of course, I haven't seen all of them, but it was one for the ages. It had everything, grand slams, comebacks, gritty pitching performances, drama, everything. Wow and Double-Wow! Unreal.
You can't imagine how much fun it was being the only Astros fan watching this game with a room full of Braves fans. When Burke hit it, I got up and starting doing a home run trot in the middle of the room. Braves fans are the most pissy bunch you'll ever be around when they lose. Also, let me tell a quick story. When my wife (who's a die-hard Braves fan) and I went to the Sunday game at MMP against the Dodgers before the All-Star break, all she could say was how much she liked Chris Burke and what a cutie he was. I turned to her after the HR and asked her if she still thought he was cute. Her response...."No, I think he's a punk now!".
simply the best baseball game i've EVER seen. that had everything, minus being a game 7. that would have been the only thing that would have made that better. just awesome. way to go 'stros! i'm so proud of this team, after starting 15-30 to going back to the NLCS. just amazing.
Ahhh, nothing like the Astros winning!!! I completely forgot today's game started so early so I went to the beach with my brother who was visiting from out of town. I get a call from my other brother and he asks if I'm watching. Tied at 6 in the 10th; he gives me the play by play when Scott JUST misses the HR. So I race up and down Ocean Drive, Washington and Collins Ave looking for ONE TV that is showing the game. I look and look and finally find a sports bar...12 TVs all tuned in to the Dolphins game. I then go into an ice cream shop airing CNN and ask if I can change the channel. They won't. So then I come to the only place that is on ESPN -- a gay bar, lol. No problem or anything, but after 5 minutes of standing staring at the bar TV, a couple of guys start to motion at me...they thought I was staring at them. That's when I left, hoping to make it back in time to see the end, hoping they didn't yet lose. Watched the last 3 innings and they were so worth it. Hmm, no classes Friday, I wonder if I can get to the game Saturday, haha. No chance at that, but it would be incredible to witness. GO ASTROS!
I loved Garner saying that you don't prepare for a 18 inning game. He looked lated in the game like a spectator, because all the moves he could make were made. I'm glad Garner is having some success managing the Astros. He was in no win situations with Milwaukee and Detroit.
