I enjoy me some Foo Fighters but some of their stuff sounds too dad-rock to me. TCATS is all around great though.

One of the greats yes but i think Jane's Addiction stands out more when thinking of the late 80's/90's greats. Especially, the side projects Perry Farrell put together (like Lollapalooza). Flea and Fruciante are all time talents though.

The RHCP came out at the height of hair meta.l The fact that they survived and then were able to excel later on is a great feat. They had a unique sound that took years to catch on but once it did they changed the rock scene.

I left out 'more' -- as in one more classic album. They peaked with Mother's Milk IMO.

True, but they weren't mainstream until grunge hit. Good music renaissance.

It's gotta be tough to live up to the standard that you've set - how can you keep on inventing completely new sounds that are really listenable?

But yeah, that song is just meh. It's not a bad song, it's just so like all the others from the last five years.

For comparison, I'll list one of my favorites. I loved it when I was a teen, and still like it.

    Taste the Pain

I think they peaked with Blood Sugar Sex Magic. I actually dig the versatility they showed on that record. After that, meh.

The Peppers never get enough love. How many other bands have one of the best at every position? Frusciante is a god! Even Kiedis is a good front man. Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Mother's Milk and Californication are GREAT albums. By The Way is another very good one. Their earlier stuff like Freakey Styley is also good. Stadium Arcadium was ok though it didn't break new ground. Probably would have been very good as a one disc album.

If you didn't know Frusciante has left the band again. They have a new guitar player for this record.

I know. Josh Klinghoffer is supposed to be taking the reigns, but I'm talking about most of their work. Their best stuff is with Frusciante, though Slovak's work was great too. I am curious to see how Klinghoffer affects their style. Judging from his work on Frusciante's solo albums I don't know that it will be radically different. That said, the new song doesn't really jump out at me.

What do you guys think about I'm With You?

There are some good tracks, but meh, they really aren't the same without John.

Listened to some of the free streaming on iTunes last week. I thought it was pretty boring, a pretty big disappointment. I think there was maybe one song I liked, but I also was not really listening too carefully. Most of the tracks sounded the same to me

I always thought this song was wayyy underrated. My pick for the best of the 90's songs from them.
