It is what it is. Stone took a gamble and wanted to see what he can become.

The only thing I would disagree is that Wemby having a better handle would be a better wing on offense than Bari. Wemby is like a taller version of Durant. On defense, I'd play Bari at the wing and Wemby at center.

What about the training that is needed for that lateral speed & strength needed to switch defend? The guy is 20 years old so he probably doesn't even have the ability to put on much of that NBA type of strength that is needed.

My whole argument has been more about the ownership and front office than anything. I think at 25 he'll be a completely different athlete with more of a grown and trained body, but I don't know that Tillman will have that kind of patience to hold onto him and Jalen which will be the first players that another GM will be asking for in the event that they are looking to trade their disgruntled star for.

I'd just love for Sengun to have that type of Summer this Summer to really see that growth sooner so we don't see him blossom 5 years later on another team while we are paying a max salary for an overpaid veteran star we traded for to win now back in December of 2023.

    .......

If there are fans of both the Rockets, Sengun, and or Jalen, I just hope they realize how important these last 30 games are, and how crucial this Summer will be for their development. Not because they both wont be awesome NBA players at some point... but because I think it's more than likely that when they do blossom it won't be in a Rockets uniform because at some point (sooner than later IMO) a free agent will want to sign here, and want the Rockets to trade for their buddy at the same time. That team holding that other star player will demand one or both of these guys in that trade, and I doubt Tillman will be able to resist.

Having Pau Gasol fears. He'll develop here and get better on a crap franchise and he'll move on to a contender.

Yes fully agree with your analysis. This is the Sengun conundrum and that’s why it’s tough to justify starting or not starting him. The great teams in the NBA have long guys that can deter players out the paint like Robert Williams or Ayton or Allen. Some of these bigs can switch as well. Keeping players out the paint is absolutely critical and we saw what teams like the Pelicans or Clippers do to us with their bigs. Sengun plays bigs with his body instead of his forearm. And when he gets bodied he is too small and gets moved (Sabonis). Or when guards dribble drive into his body he is moved or too slow and at a disadvantaged angle this is why he uses his hands and fouls a lot. So unfortunate since there’s skill and talent there. It will be interesting what the Rockets do with Sengun next year.

Yep. And don't listen to me. Tim McMahon knows more about Tillman than I do and he's said on multiple occasions that Tillman just isn't the type of personality to naturally play the long game. He also needs the Rockets to be as profitable as they can be these next couple years as he's actually needing to show financial stability & growth with his book of business so he can get his Vegas strip landmark casino financed. The Rockets need to be showing growing attendance, with steady TV viewership, and licensing deals so he can pull a nice valuation in these next two years.

The Rockets represent a 2 billion dollar asset in his portfolio. He needs to show that they went from 2 billion to 2.3 or 2.4 these past 5 years. Being a clown show bottom feeder with the lowest attendance in the league does nothing to help him in that presentation.

What might be the biggest positive influence though is the Astros and his relationship with Jim Crane. If not for him seeing that play out the way it has, I would bet money he probably already would have already forced stupid short term trades on Stone.

According to neutral NBA analysts, Sengun isn't even in the same tier of assets as Green and Jabari.

As good as Sengun is in the post, until he can stretch defenses and open up driving lanes for players ..teams will continue to clog paint and dare us to make 3s

On the defensive side, we can’t continue to give up 3s while making 2s

Bron was seeking the switch to get Sengun / Bari either as primary or secondary defender on him in the 4th

Lakers attacked the Rockets in paint, Rockets are just small (weight) in major areas now .. that’s part of being young but we could use some taller players …trending in that direction with Bari and Eason .. KMJ jumping ability helps on weakside blocking but hurts us defensive rebounding … same with Tate

Once we get down it’s hard to play in post when you not getting any defensive stops… and not hitting any 3s

Like Green and Jabari are way worse than Sengun?

Because neutral NBA analyst thinks Green is ass

Literally the opposite. Those are The Athletic writers' opinions also not some Screaming A Smith hot take show rankings

And which neutral fans? Opposing team commentators have said off the wall things about Green even during his current horrid shooting stretch like the Jazz commenters all agreeing that "Green has higher upside than Ja Morant".

I think a lot of people who are high on Sengun don't understand that more than likely he's much closer to his realized potential than Green or Jabari from playing multiple years in pro leagues before the NBA. The way most neutral NBA fans see it is that Sengun has the highest floor due to his polish from playing in pro leagues but Green and Jabari have higher ceilings.

Whenever Alpi does few blocks (Mavs block party, last night game,..) a certain group members raise "Sengun's defence" issue.

I have no idea who orchestrates this "A List" members. Have to read again Bulgakov's Master&Margarita. It is obvious that Margarita is R. Hollins but who is the master?

    We might learn one day.

We owe you an apology. When you were suggesting Alpi as ROY candidate, some people labelled you as troll/delusional/,,. We had to support you more. I apologise for my part. Sorry.

Great point. If I may add, Sengun is often exposed defensively because there is practically no perimeter defense. He thus becomes like a firefighter trying to put out fires all over the place. Green has been like a matador on defense and he looks lost once his man gets past him. There is a reason why teams, like the Lakers, who are relatively among the league's worst three-point shooting teams, look like they don't miss those threes against the Rockets. The whole team can benefit from a defensive coach that can teach the fundamentals of individual and team defense. They all look discombobulated and disoriented on that side of the court.

Exactly! I don't understand it. I think he is way ahead in the developmental curve due to playing pro and getting the euro education but he has so much untapped potential as well, and far from being close to his realized potential. Being ahead in the development does not necessarily mean he is close to the final product.

I think it can mean "closer to the final product" because there is a limit to how much polish and skill you can reach before your physical limitations prevent further progression into another level of player.

I think Green and Jabari are considerably farther away from their ceiling. Reaching that ceiling is another story. By no means is this a statement of certainty that they will get better and surpass Sengun eventually as a consistent efficient player.
