LOL...right! When was the last time Dick Justice was right about anything!

If this "rumor" has any legs, let me get my opinion in.....

AI is a beast....he's not a ball hog; he's a number one option that's generally NEEDED to score.

He's a willing passer.....yes; I said it....I willing passer that has always had decent assist numbers over his career.

He will get to the line because he's fearless and a freak'n flopper.

High IQ....the poster that said he plays street ball is a sterotyper and needs to watch a game instead of highlights. Some of the best coaches in the basketball have marveled about his IQ. He can play in any system.

On this team....defensively, he will be a liability, but he makes up for that by avg 2+ steals a game.

He leaves it on the court every night....no one works harder on the court and wants to win as much as AI.

I know he had his issues in the past, but know one thing... no one ever questioned his skills and the heart he has for playing the game.

He would be a nice addition and his "GOODS" WAAAYYY outweighs his "bads".

    Count me in!

The only reason the Nuggets would even listen to a offer from Houston is if they include Battier with a decent package.

Not the point. Holding the ball to make an assist is still contrary to the offensive gameplan. Didn't Francis have great assist and scoring numbers but we railed on him constantly for his ballstopping tendencies?

I love this trade, but the best trade would be sing me up to $15M plus Rafer for AI then we wont lose anyone.

So Battier can come off the bench? Or, do you think he'll be starting over Melo?

    I still don't see it.

Since Iverson is worth that much, why don't you also throw in our cheerleaders and power dancers and while you are at it, trade some fans to Denver as well.

true, but they get nothing in return if they just let him go. if he really is being shopped (whether we are making a play or not), then odds are that means that they're looking to make a move into contention right now.

not sure how they would work that out, truth be told. and alston was who i was referring to as the "solid distributor" doofus :p

I'll accept the doofus comment. I misread your post.

As far as getting nothing in return if they wait, don't you think they could get something more signficant than Alston and Battier (e.g., the rumored trade with the Bulls a few posts up)?

Once again we have debate about whether a HOF player or just a really good player should be traded for 3 bench players. I doubt Denver would do it, but if we assume they're crazy enough, this thread should be longer with excitement. Really good players have easier transition when they play with other really good players. They have a tougher time playing with scrubs. Iverson is a really good player. In case people haven't noticed, Tracy doesn't care that he plays a pippen like role, he just wants to win. If he had to guard the teams best wing because he wouldn't need to do everything offensively, he could and would do it. Great players sacrifice to win. Iverson, Tracy, and Yao would make a great 3 man core along with Scola. They can always trade for a wing guy or get a ross, woods, or another role player. Better yet, they have a 2.5 te or just play the rook greene. They get iverson, filling out the roster just became a lot easier. I just don't think the nuggetts are that crazy and morey has the sac to pull it off.

    1) Because Alston would thrive in Denver because he is a pass first PG they desire and he is at his best playing the pace that denver plays.

    2) Who wouldn't want Battier?

    3) Look at the Lakers/Grizzlies trade. At least they're getting alot more than just an expiring contract back.

It'd be nice to do this deal without Battier, though. :D

I'd probably say that they would slide Battier over to the 2, and bring JR Smith off the bench.

Or the other possibility would be to let Melo play some time at the 4. He does it in international play why not have him do it a bit in the NBA.

    Responses:

    1) I do think Alston is better suited for Denver so I agree somewhat on this point.

    2) A team that has a starting SF named Carmelo Anthony.

    3) This was one of the most ridiculous trades in league history and shouldn't be used as a basis for comparison.

International play is totally different. Bigs overseas aren't as big and don't play nearly as physical as they do here. That's why Team USA is less concerned with loading their roster with legit big men.

I agree that Anthony can play PF but I don't think Denver would use him that way. His offensive production would go downhill if he spent significant time banging with opposing PFs on defense. Melo is ideally an NBA SF.

He plays it for your team. Who guards Wade? Battier or Tmac? Battier guards the best player between SG/SF. Carmelo would guard the 2nd of those players, just like the Rockets do.

Shane guards some of the best 2's in the league. Melo can play the 2 on the offensive end and guard the 3 on d. Thats really not that far fetched that what shane does in houston, right now. when is the last time you saw tmac on kobe bryant?

We could use Francis, Head, and Harris as salary matchers instead of Battier. :D
