My first thoughts on the active roster: position players. Corey Julks can't be the primary LF like he is now and he is not ideal as the 4th OF since he doesn't really play CF or RF. He gets sent down. Having Diaz able to DH is a huge benefit that can't be ignored. This means a veteran, defensively respected catcher to be 26th man is important. Salazar is OK in this role but it can be improved. Send him to AAA. Chas is an ideal 4th OF and part time starter and Dubon is an ideal utility guy. That leaves 2 roster spots: a primary LF starter, who I would prefer to hit LH or at least be very good vs RHP. Unless a veteran is brought in, I see Gilbert, Dirden, and to a lesser extent, Leon to fight for this spot. A very respected veteran bench catcher wraps up the 13 spots.
Hahaha. Oops I skipped SS. He should be there. If you count there are 25 instead of 26 active and 39 players on my full 40 man rosters. Sorry I can't go back and fix it now.
Bielak and Paredes will be out of options next season. So either they are on the 26 man roster, the Injured List, or they are gone. Same goes for Whitley but the Astros mentioned something about trying to get another option year with him somehow. No idea how that works. Also, Neris may not be back. His team option is about to turn into a player option once he reaches 40 appearances this season. He is at 36 appearances right now. You will probably have to give him another 2 year deal and a raise to keep him.
That's very interesting about Neris. I had not noticed that and it's a problem for the bullpen. Based on last off season spending and his performance, there is no way he takes the player option. That means the bullpen loses 3 of its top 5 pitchers. Pressly and Abreu are back but the remaining 6 members are from: Montero, Martinez, and all the young unproven guys.
Still think the Astros can and should be trusted regarding injuries? https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/...iscussion-thread.319343/page-36#post-14619512
