I'm okay with letting Josh walk. Definitely didn't want him going to the Clippers, but I'm not sure why everyone is freaking out over losing him. There were games were he was legitimately the worst player on the court, and games were he was one of the best. A very high variance player. We are definitely not punting this season. We are bringing back most of the same players with some minor tweaks. Just like Morey and McHale said after the season, they are doing exactly what they said they would. Plus the off-season and trade deadline are not even close to being over, so I don't get the panic. Trust the guy that has put the team in a good position time and time again.
You're already wrong. They let him walk because they didn't want to spend the MLE on him. You might think he is worth it, but management didn't. They gave him an offer more than he is getting from the Clippers. It wasn't they wanted him off the team... in which case they could have offered nothing. They aren't trying to up TJones trade value, they are trying to manage the cap and improve the team as a whole with a goal towards winning an NBA ring as soon as possible. If you don't believe that's the case, you haven't been paying attention. You can disagree with their methods, but by no means are they taking a pass on this year, or any year. ALL THAT SAID, I'd absolutely pass on a Josh Smith if it in someway helped us win a championship ring in the 2017 season... yes, I said 2017... because on his own, Smith isn't the guy to get them over the top in 2016
josh smith passed on multiple other teams to play with the rockets because they were a contender and because of howard. It wasnt some amazing smart move by the front office. We were just lucky he was waived. dont count on it happening again
All of you that crying that the sky is falling, just understand this; Morey is infinitely smarter than all of you combined. Also, not only is he smarter, he actually understands how rosters and free agency works. He has a ton of guys working under him to make sure he understands anything he didn't get. Like any GM though, he will strike out here and there, but we have to believe that he will do everything he can to rectify things and shore up weaknesses as the season goes along.
Remember last offseason when Dallas clearly had passed us and we were a risk to miss the playoffs. Gotta love clutchfans
The situation isn't even comparable. Morey lucked out by Detroit cutting Smith. He was a huge part of our teams success last year if you don't see that your blind. Without Smith we get bounced in round 2 possibly 1 depending on our seeding from the year which probably would have been worse.
One year ago, right after Morey declined to match Parsons contract, how many of you guys said the same craps also?
Problem is many fans actually believe this team just needed health to win it all...you're delusional. Thornton helps, but we still need to lock in that 4 spot with a better player. Morey knows this, so he's not going to lock in the team financially with the same roster as last year. It may not be about Durant necessarily, but clearly we need a little more talent to go all the way. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">FYI, if the Rockets actually go ahead and use the "full" MLE, they will be HARD-CAPPED at the apron level ($88.74M)...</p>— David Weiner (@BimaThug) <a href="https://twitter.com/BimaThug/status/621795395388047360">July 16, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">.<a href="https://twitter.com/HTwnBigDobbs">@HTwnBigDobbs</a> If a HARD CAP is imposed (which is well above the "regular" salary cap), there is nothing Les can do to exceed it.</p>— David Weiner (@BimaThug) <a href="https://twitter.com/BimaThug/status/621802800578564096">July 16, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Rockets are not done making the moves. We can have this conversation once the roster is finalized (2015-16 trade deadline).
Oh really? A savior for a team to reach the West conference final needs to settle for a 1 year min deal?
It's completely comparable. We lose a player that was productive for us, and all of the sudden we suck. It's all knee-jerk bull****. If you think Josh was a make or break player for the Rockets, then they are in worse shape than most thought. We will recover from this, just like we have recovered from all of the other losses.
Remember guys, we have a while before the season actually starts. We also were not exactly losing when we were marching out KPap, Canaan, and others others early on in the season either. Yes, Clippers might have picked up some solid players, but we ALSO have solid players coming back from injuries.
Will be seeing a lot of hacking of Clippers. Don't think the roster is totally set for this coming year.
We got Ariza sometime afterwards, iirc. If we can get someone of Smith's caliber to our team, I guarantee you a lot of people on this board will shut up.
There isn't a player of his caliber available. He was our 2nd play maker. We now have Harden and only Harden.
I am afraid of that too. I know we are going in hard on the KD sweepstakes but what happens if we strike out again? Would that cause us to lose harden?
