Thought Obama's speech was a little flat, but that doesn't take away from the moment. Congrats to him and I think we'll be better off in the next four than the last eight.
Speech was in no way flat. The only way you could say it was flat was because he wasn't overly rambunctious in getting the crowd riled up. It as a great, but very controlled speech.
i've never cried as a result of a speech, nor have i ever been more proud to be an american. that was an INCREDIBLE speech.
First time poster, long time lurker! Like it was said many times this evening, I cant wait to tell my kids I witnessed this night. I am a huge Obama supporter that had nothing at all against McCain. I really hope that the GOP supporters will come around to Obama and at least try to help get this country on the right track. If everyone puts as much effort into doing a little more for each other as they did defending their respective canidate, the next 4 years will be amazing.
I agree with Hayes in that it was a bit flat but I thought that was actually due to the venue (outdoors) and by choice - I don't think he wanted pure euphoria, which he could have enabled, say, had this speech been at United Center or Soldier field, I think he wanted to be able to manage expectations and this is a good way to start with a semi-somber beginning.
Wow... this is still setting in. Keep thinking about grandmother and all that she has seen in her 90+ years of life.... Lots of work to be done. Can't wait to (continue) do my part.
Why does that matter? Make no mistake about, this election excited millions of people regardless of race, age, gender, socioeconomic status, etc.
Pretty incredible speech and historic night. I was totally wrong on my electoral prediction other than Barack Obama winning. I didn't expect it to to be this big of a margin.
just wondering.. I know the african american votes in the past have been very low. Was just trying to get a guessament on first time african american voters because of this election.
I honestly have no idea but the voter turnout has been pretty mediocre across the board, I believe. Maybe somebody will be able to get you some facts or stats on what you want though.
I thought that towards the end of the speech, when he talked about the world and how we would defeat those who would tear it down and support those who were for freedom and democracy, he finally raised the speech to a level worthy of the occasion. That truly gave me chills. I've traveled the globe and I honestly don't think most Americans realize just how far our standing in the international community has fallen. Tonight, the world is looking at the United States again with hope, not fear. The challenges are immense, but we now have a leader up to the task. It is a fine time to be an American.
