It seems Bobcats and Wallace not able to reach an agreement, would you trade David Wesley for Gerald Wallace? I think he will be a good fit to back up t-mac. http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/sports/basketball/nba/charlotte_bobcats/12658966.htm Posted on Fri, Sep. 16, 2005 Bobcats, Wallace talks at impasse Forward might leave after coming season RICK BONNELL Staff Writer Gerald Wallace and the Charlotte Bobcats have agreed to disagree, and that could lead to his departure next season, if not sooner. Bobcats management and Wallace's agent couldn't come to an agreement Thursday, so coach-general manager Bernie Bickerstaff expects Wallace to play for the one-year qualifying offer. That offer -- for about $2 million this season -- would make Wallace an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2006. Wallace turned down what one source described as a three-year guarantee worth about $16 million. "We're at a stalemate. And as far as value, we think we're fair," Bickerstaff said late Thursday. "I would assume he'll play for the qualifying offer. Our message was very consistent: We like Gerald, we want him on our basketball team, and if he reaches the status they say he is, we'll pay him well." Wallace's agent, Rob Pelinka, confirmed to the Observer that the Bobcats didn't improve on their previous offer during Thursday's meeting. He said they're disappointed, and now Wallace must consider the alternatives: Playing for the one-year qualifier or shopping his services to a team willing to sign Wallace to an offer sheet. That's complicated by Wallace's restricted free-agent status. Pelinka would have to find a team willing and able to pay more than the Bobcats offered. And even then, the Bobcats hold the right to match another team's offer. If Wallace becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer, the Bobcats could still pay him the most and for the longest term, under the NBA's "Larry Bird" rule. Wallace started 68 games last season, averaging 11.1 points and 5.5 rebounds. He's a spectacular leaper with a knack for blocking shots and grabbing steals. However, his outside shot is suspect, and he committed the most turnovers on the team (159 last season). Wallace came to the Bobcats in the expansion draft, after playing three seasons for the Sacramento Kings. This isn't the first time he turned down a multi-year deal with the Bobcats: Bickerstaff tried to sign him to an extension last fall, before the regular season began.
Yes, but no one in the right mind would trade Wallace for Wesley -that's just a horribly improbable idea.
would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance, to come back here as young men and tell our enemies that they may take our lives but they will never take our Wesleeeey!"
How do you figure. The Bobcats are not going to be good this year anyway. Wallace is a great athlete, but Wesley is a veteran, who is familiar in Charlotte and could be a stabilizing influence. And he is on the last year of his deal. The Bobcats certainly may be able to get more for Wallace, but I don't think they would necessarily turn down the Wesley for Wallace offer, especially if we threw in a draft pick. Another question is would the Rockets really want to pay him more than $16 million over 3 years?
I wonder how Gerald Wallace became such poison, so quickly? He played 70 games last year, averaged 31 minutes; he doesn't shoot the 3 well but got 1.67 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. And 11.1 points. For the equivalent of the MLE and, say, a 5 year contract, I'd say, yeah, he's worth adding to the roster: 6'7", early 20's. Doesn't this team need youth and athleticism and defense? Still, I would guess Sura and an expiring contract and a pick would do the job. Obviously Charlotte doesn't want to lock itself into long-term contracts.
Bobcats wont do it. Wallace is on one year left, so is David's. There is no motive for Bobcats to do this. Now if you throw in Moochie, they still wont do it.
this is almost a steal..gerald could come in and play the athletic defender we need. he's tall and strong and can defend well. i'd take him for wesley anyday.
Can he play the 2 spot. His fg% is high but his 3pt% is low. I figure athletic, slasher, good from 15' in. Can he play D on 2's, can he learn to put it in from downtown? Do we need that much tied up in a guy that will play 5-10 MPG backing up TMac?
If a trade like this really go through and with the signing of Swift, the athleticism of this team will at least go up 50% this season compared with last year.
Wallace has a similar contract to Wesley's -1 year left with both. That throws out the only aspect that could possibly be in Wesley's favour. Wallace 2004/2005: 11.1ppg/5.5rpg/2.5apg/1.7spg/1.3bpg } 30 minutes Wesley 2004/2005: 11.9ppg/2.9rpg/3.3apg/1.2spg/0.1bpg } 34 minutes Now, simply put, Wallace has a rather high-trade value; one that is much higher than Wesley's. One is 23-24, the other, 36; one has potential to be a starting 3/4 in the very near future, the other, on the obvious decline. And surely, according to your argument that the Bobcats aren't going to do anything this year anyways, wouldn't they be much better off looking to trade for more youth, if they really must left Wallace go?
Wallace is a RFA. He does not have a contract. Rumors are he will sign the 1 year qualifying offer as he can't get a good deal from the Bobcats. Then next year he would be a FA. But he hasn't signed yet.
Wallace is listed at 6'7" and 215 lbs. That is a smallish 3 and an absolutely wisp of a 4. He sounds like a good 2, but he can't shoot 3's.
For all his strengths, Gerald Wallace can't shoot, dribble, or pass well enough to be considered a legitimate starting SG on a championship team. In fact, he really can't shoot or dribble at all... It really wouldn't be worth it, I don't think. Not with all the questions surrounding Sura and DA's durability.
