Thanks 'rocks' your the only one who answered my earlier question. No wonder Charlotte doesn't want to pay him that much. Should'a played football.

I bet this coming season Wesley's going to make everyone glad CD didn't let him get away.

It's amazing how some of you over-rate our own players, and under-rate those from other teams. I can guarantee you that if this was posted on any other NBA-forum, it would be laughed at, and closed due to it's hilarity.

With Tmac, Yao, Swift, Anderson and others, how much shooting is Wallace going to really do? If he can just be consist and improve it a little bit, it would be a good rox trade. I see him as a JVG type role player plus hes only 23 yrs old. Rox get youth, athleticism, and defense. For the deal to go down, Rox need to throw a 1st (this pick is going to be late pick---)or 2 2nd round pick. It's worth a shot for the rox.

Yeah, sort of like Bruce Bowen. He would never work on a championship team with plenty of other offensive options.

An athletic, lock down defeder that can block shots off the ball. He will be able to take the tough wing defensive assignment from T Mac and he does not need the ball or shots but can finish on the break and help on the boards. Just give him a few years to develop the Bowen 3pt set shot and you are golden. A Houston, future lineup of Head, Wallace, T Mac, Swift and Yao would be entertaining and contending for titles with the proper role players.

Wesley and a 1st round pick would be worth it. 2 starters at the MAX and two starters at the MLE is pretty good.

Heh. That sounds like a good argument, but it isn't. The Rockets need shooters to spread the floor. Gerald Wallace might not ever even be an average shooter. Incidentally, this is the same reason I expect the Suns to take some MAJOR steps backwards this season.

I know David Wesley didn't perform too well in the playoffs, but I still can't believe how eager everyone is to get rid of him after the way he played for us in the season. I expect he'd have been much more solid for us in the playoffs if we didn't demand so many minutes out of him all season long. He was an old and tired body. I expect he'll be a big contributor this season.

Well, Wesley was one of the more popular Hornets for several years...

In our system, he'd get a TON of open 3pt looks. And chances are, he'd miss them.

Our offense is absolutely terrible when we aren't hitting threes. Wallace doesn't possess the ballhandling/penetrating ability to make up for his terrible shooting.

He's entering his fifth year in the league. He's 18-75 from beyond the arc for his career. He was a .175 3pt shooter in college.

The vast majority of players don't learn how to shoot in the NBA. They just don't. It's a skill that needs to be taught at a young age.

I just don't think that a guy like Wallace (or, for that matter, Darius Miles) would be a good fit here as a starter. I think we need someone with some point guard skills who can handle, shoot, and defend. If DA can stay healthy, he'll be PERFECT. If not, we'll have some problems, but Wesley has shown that he can step in and be effective.

Um, Wesley is 36. Even if you assume that he absolutely KILLS this year, he'll be going into semi-retirement next year, unless of course that you think we'll win the champ this year. Chances are, both us winning the champ this year and Wes being good ain't that high.

Wallace on the other hand is 23. Even if he doesn't work out at worst we can trade him. For similar level marginal players, you always pick the younger one, unless you think you can win it all.

Wait, wait, wait.......just a moment there. There is a ton of difference offensively between Wallace and Miles. Miles has the midrange game and he has proven that he can knock down the shots from FT line extended down to the baseline. He would fit in fine because of the size mismatches at the 2 3 positions. He could post up opposing defenders all day long. And his play would allow TMac to play from the top where he likes to play at. Miles has Wallace's slasher/finisher game plus a whole nother dimension offensively. Witness the 47 point performance last year.

Offensively, Wallace is nothing but a dunker, which means he is useless in the half court sets, which is what is played at winning time in the playoffs. Wallace could not make it in a pass happy offense where the ball was thrown around all over the place and that team had more backdoor cuts for layups/dunks than any team in the league. I wouldn't trade Wesley for him, but I'd be willing to send Wesley and whatever to Charlotte in a 3 way with Portland with Wallace going to the Blazers and Miles coming here.

How about Wesley and a pick to Charlotte, Baker to Portland, and Wallace and a TE to to Portland and Miles to H-Town????

For the people that like to talk about the numbers, Wesley's numbers went down except for FG and 3-pt fg. He increased 2% in FG and 3% 3pt fg (thats 2 fg more out of a 100). Played 2 mins less, I guess that could be a reason to go down. and he will be 35 this year. But he does shoot 3's pretty more time for the offense. And about Wallace's 3's, he's not a shooter but he can defend and last yr was the first yr that he had real playing time. Good for the future if he can just improve his 3's to decent. Wesley just become expendable because there alot of guards. This is good off season topic.

Bottom line, the player that really need to shoot more is Yao. and not wesley or wallace..

    pls ignore the other post,

Look at what happen in the dallas series. It gives Tmac more time for the offense. And about Wallace's 3's, he's not a shooter but he can defend and last yr was the first yr that he had real playing time. Good for the future if he can just improve his 3's to decent. If players don't learn to shoot in the NBA, where do they learn to shoot? Tmac wasn't a great shooter early, Vince Carter wasn't a great shooter in college or early in the NBA, Redd wasn't, among others. Gerald Wallace would be a good fit despite his shooting right now. Wallace does not have to be Kyle Korver and that is not the type of player the Rockets need.

The Rockets are 1st and foremost a defensive team. The Rockets need more permiter quickness to make players work to get into the lane. That is the beauty of the Spurs and Pistons defense, players use all that energy and clock trying to get into the lane only to be rejected or have their shot altered. Also, when teams involve Yao in the pick and roll, someone like Wallace has the quickness and shotblocking to help so Yao will not be forced to clutch and grab.

Offensively the Rockets will win games in the 4th quarter on the backs of Yao and T Mac for the next 10 years or so. NBA games, especially for defensive teams, are mostly close into the 4th quarter. Although Wallace can't help much with shooting now, he can help on the offensive boards.

Add in the fact that Wallace would be entering his prime at the END of the contract.

I dont think there is any question if the Bobcats offered GW to us for Wesley we would make that trade. But it wont happen.

More than likely it appears GW will take the 1 year tender offer from the Bobcats and become an UNrestricted FA next season. The Bobcats just dont want to pay him a lot of money but GW probably is looking for a contract at the FULL MLE.

GW, along with Vlad Rad and probably Eddy Curry will all take the one year tenders and become UNrestricted FAs next year so they can chase the big dollars.

Gerald Wallace is Ron Artest lite. Alot less offense, not a head case but possibly just as good on defense. Artest wasn't that good on offense when he first came in the league and last year was Wallace's first year with real playing time. He could develop an "O" game but you can only pay him for the defense at this point.

I think Duece is right in that it looks like he will take the Qualifying offer of 2M. Then the Bobcats might be looking to trade him. It is a little disturbing he has turned down their 3 year 16M offer. That is an average of 5.3M. He is not worth more, maybe he just wanted a 6 year deal. If we traded for him we could only offer the MLE next summer. If the Rockets want him they should do a S&T now of Wesley + #1 pick For Wallace. Now how much to pay? 6 years at 30M?

Will it happen? Only if CD wants to be GM of the year.

I bet a better option will come along next summer for a starting SG for us to snag with the MLE.

omg I can't believe people are thinking stuff like this about Gerald freaking Wallace.

1st, Wallace is nowhere near comparable to Ron Artest, on offense or defense.

2nd, if Wallace does sign the QO, he can't be traded. He's stuck there for a year. So if you want him, you have to get him now or wait til he's a fa next year. So I can't wait til he signs and all this talk stops.

3rd, he should have taken the $$$, he isn't worth that and he certainly isn't worth more than that.

4th, this team needs shooters more than a lockdown defender(as if that's what Wallace is). JVG's system is good enough to make mediocre defenders better than they are, esp guards.

5th, we don't need some overpriced scrub as a backup for TMac, who will play, at a minimum, 35 mpg. Wallace is not good enough to start on this team, and he certainly isn't good enough to move TMac over to sg.

    ok, im good now.

Actually, that is not what Micah1j was implying. Re-read that potion of his post again.

    ---------
I am not crazy about Gerald, for starters. There is no inclination that we should from CD or Bernie that we should even be comtemplating GW coming here.

His shooting or lack there of worries me, and I not sure how it will work out on the court if we were to be able to add him to this team. Will he be willing to start from the bench for one year or maybe two? Will he take 4 or 5 years @ MLE (cos 6 years seems a bit too long for me)? Will TMAC be willing to move back to the SG position to accomodate him? Is CD-JVG combo even interested in him?
