After seeing plenty of negativity the last 24 hours or so in this forum, I would like to make a couple points about the future of this organization and our title chances. First, let me just say Morey is playing chess. He is Bobby Fischer and yes, other gms are scared to play(deal) with him because they are scared to lose. With new ownership taking over last year and pushing GSW to the brink in a gm 7 in the WCW, Morey had some tough decisions to make...An aging Ariza was a ufa and offered 15m a year from Phoenix. He tried to replace him with Ennis and brought in An aging Melo hoping to reignite his career. Additionally, he was faced with the albatross Ryan Anderson contract. He made the move for Brandon Knight and Chriss. These moves didn’t work out. However, he managed to pull our team out of luxury tax hell without giving up Gordon or Capela for a lesser talent. Which brings me to my next point. Analyzing the landscape of the NBA and the teams that stand in our way currently. This very well may be GS’s final year with KD, Curry, and Klay all together. Take KD and Klay off GS and they are fighting for a playoff spot next year. Denver is solid but doesn’t necessarily scare me. After that I think the west will be wide open. I believe with the moves that have been made in the east there has been a slight power shift in the NBA. Philly, Milwaukee, Boston and Toronto will be battling. The variables are the pending free agents obviously in the offseason. KD, AD, Kyrie, Klay will change the entire landscape. We are competing now. Morey getting us out of the luxury tax sets us up to continue to compete moving forward even past this year. He’s playing chess fellas. Even if LA gets AD this offseason.... they will give up a ton and LeBron isn’t getting younger. The west may be wide open the next couple years and James Harden isn’t slowing down Anytime soon. We have the best player in the league right now. I also believe we have the best GM. We’re Getting to a finals in the next three years. I truly believe that.
If you want to create a legacy no one can touch, beat this GSW team; don't wait for it to fade. With the season Harden is having, wouldn't it be the sweetest championship beating this team? It would place Harden amongst the greatest (and this team!) There would be zero chance of people wanting to put an astrix on this ring. To paraphrase a Houston legend If you like Harden then you should put a ring on it
think we have about 3 years(2019-20-21) left in Harden's super prime (MVP level) if anything, Tilman should take a tax hit to get another star player to team up with Harden within this period. we can't just waste Harden's prime by surrounding him with some old arse scrubs. we need a legit all star to help Harden. Unfortunately, I think this is the last year when CP can perform at an all star level if he's healthy...
LOL the whole chess argument. It was this summer too and those are the **** ups and 1st rounders we’re giving away to fix this crap. Wake up
Lot of people on her sounding like a lot of bitter ex spouses. We only play 8 guys in the playoffs anyways.
I like the optimism but Morey hitches his wagon to CP3 for the next 3 1/2 years with a contract that will be hard to trade. If CP3 can’t stay healthy that makes it even harder to move. The question is weather he can play at an all-star level during the playoffs. If not, we’ll be forced to sign scrubs until his contract expires or Harden moves on. No doubt the luxury tax is an issue with the owner but Morey was the one that signed CP3 to a contract that absorbs 33% of the teams salary. The only way up is to get lucky with a draft pick, although Morey always seems to trade them away. Honestly, I don’t see the Rockets getting to the championship unless CP3 stays healthy and plays out of his mind. We’ll see. The only positive I see is the addition of Faried. Once Capela returns we should be pretty stout defensively, especially if Shupert lives up to the hype as a defensive specialist.
I was really excited to see what follows the Bobby Fischercomaprison, like some in-depth analysis no one sees. The chess argument really diminishes the art of playing chess. Oh well, Morey can pretty much sell anything to some people here. maybe he indeed plays chess to those people.
I’m not mad at the deadline. Realistically, we weren’t getting anyone big and it wasn’t because we didn’t want it, we just didn’t have the pieces to make it happen. I like the Iman pick up. We didn’t give up anyone for him. I would have liked to to keep Ennis since he seemed to start playing well, but if it was a matter being a luxury team with Ennis or not without him, I’m fine with the latter. It’s not going to come down to him. Otherwise, we pretty much have the same playoff squad we had last year with Iman instead of Ariza and Faried and Rivers to add on to that. More importantly, we have an even better Harden. I just don’t get the whole notion we’re going to be able to make another big splash with all this. Even if we are willing to go into the luxury tax next year, we don’t have cap space to do it through free agency. We’re not building assets by filling our roster with buyout candidates. If anything we would have had more assets with larger expirings and having kept the draft pick without the trade.
partly agree, but this Otherwise, we pretty much have the same playoff squad we had last year with Iman instead of Ariza and Faried and Rivers to add on to that. More importantly, we have an even better Harden Doubt Iman will replace last year's Ariza. Last year's team was an well-oil'ed machine. Every piece hummed together. This year ... it's not there yet. As per Harden, the current style of play won't win us anything. If we can't figure it out by the end of regular season, meaning Harden still has to score 40+ points for us to win, we may not pass the second round this year. Don't really forget CP has declined so far by a lot.
what do you mean? REAL ROCKET FANS should be delusional enough to believe this Rockets team can sweep the Warriors when healthy!!!
problem is we don’t have anything close to the assets needed to acquire a star, and we have no cap space to sign one either....Tilman can’t just magically make those 2 issues go away
I agree with you here with one exception , and that's an unknown at this point - What happens with Shumpert at seasons end ? Are they committed to retaining him - if not , that trade was …. a waste of future assets. If they retain Shumpert , the narrative changes. My only other questions are about Faried and Rivers - Can you keep one or both without use of the MLE allowing you to add another quality player ?! Curious what you think about these three going forward.
CP3 agreed to the wink wink trade so that Murray could load up that year with Tucker, Prince and other pickups. So I don't think it was possible not to give Chris the max allowed this offseason. That's the 160M big old gorilla in the room.
Wasn't Bobby Fischer a champion? What has Morey won? It's a bad comparison. To be honest, as a fan, I don't care if Tillman has to pay luxury tax. I want him to pay luxury tax if it makes the team better, and I'm disappointed when he doesn't. Between Morey's bad moves, Tillman's unwillingness to spend, the injuries this season and Chris Paul's decline, it has been a tough season, and it looks like it isn't going to get better. As a fan, I just want to believe we have a chance, and right now I really don't. Too many teams have improved, while the Rockets have declined this year. Maybe the only way to possibly get back to last year's level was to take some chances -- maybe trade Capela or multiple first rounders, certainly trade Gordon -- and try to get an elite player to pair with Harden. But seeing management basically settle for just making the playoffs, and not going anywhere in them, is deflating. You just never know how Harden's health is going to hold up in the next few years. You only get so many shots, and we seem to have given up on this one.
Morey won the title last year buddy...its only that nba took it from him by means of malevolent officiating in wcf... But for all practical purposes hes won it....bobby fisher metaphor is legit....
