That has merit. But it also allows the opposing team to pitch around the good bats that are surrounded by lesser ones. Spreading, in my mind, leads to a more dynamic outcome. It ups the potential you will score a lot, also that you score very little. It puts pressure on the lesser bats to perform. If they do, lots of runs. If they flame out, a couple solo homers may be our only offense.
