  The probability for Asik to make both free throws is P (makes 1st AND makes 2nd) = 0.56 * 0.56 = 0.3136 = 31% chance of getting 2 points out of the possession. Math-wise, it is actually worth the risk. You also stop the clock and create more possession for yourself + spoil the offensive momentum of opponent. 3 win situation.
