You're going to regret this post when Mirsad Turkcan signs with the Rockets and leads us to a title. He's probably not even 40 yet. He's still got time.
if there was ever a right-place, right-time moment. Very short-term 3 pt line movement + old-school illegal D rules + 2 post-up HOFers made him millions. Otherwise he's a pick-up league player (I still picked Maloney)
If Jeremy had a game that was comparable to Matt Maloney's career average as a Rocket, we'd say Lin had a bad game, or, at the very best, an ineffective one. Lin has been playing badly lately, but this reactionary thread is an insult to any Rockets fan with an inkling of common sense.
Why did the rockets sign maloney to a huge contract? Do you even remember the playoffs? At least Matt did something in the playoffs. Insert excuses for Lin in the playoffs. If you don't see the parallels then you did go back to rockets 101. Overpaying point guards 101 rockets history
I think most of us agree Jeremy Lin is playing terrible. Do we really need to create multiple threads to point it out. Merge this with the Jeremy is a joke thread. Yeah we have a history of overpaid crappy pg's before. Moochie, Maloney, Rafer, etc. If you want to say Lin is the worst of the bunch fine. JUst dump it in the Lin is a joke thread.
This thread requires you to know or look up rockets history . History is important . The lessons of Matt Maloney applies to today's rockets. We've never had a steady turnover free, runs the offense correctly point guard since Kenny Smith. Steve Francis was a shoot first guard more of the Iverson mold.
Lowry fit that description, at least in his first year as a starter. And Rafer was actually pretty good at limiting TOs and running the offense, he just had Ricky Rubio disease when it came to shooting inside the arc.
Tin man u have to agree with that. Lowry was great to have and so was Dragic. Watching Jeremy Lin in a Rockets uniform makes me want to gag.
What I meant by steady also included staying on the team for more than a couple of years. Both Lowry and dragic were solid.
Great comparison! Both undrafted Ivy-Leaguers with zero lateral quickness, who got routinely abused by NBA-level point guards. They are very similar, but the NBA is different, and the team is different. Maloney played with three superb post-up threats in Dream, Chuck and Clyde (yes, Rudy would postup Clyde a lot), so all he had to do is work on his 3pt jumper to deliver for the team on kickouts from the post. He did, and he got paid. Lin is playing in post-hand check NBA, with one of the best high-post screeners I've ever seen, in Omer Asik, following another one in Tyson Chandler. His bread and butter is finding the seam on the PnR and getting to the hole, where he can finish quite decently. That's his only skill, and he can use it for maybe getting another contract on the right team. Unfortunately, with Harden and Dwight we're not running this play as much, and Lin lost rhythm and confidence.
sorry, i have to comment. seriously? dump on Lin's career. i stopped following the NBA after Jordan retired. Get back to it, when Jeremy Lin came up the screen. Jeremy Lin is not a great player, but he is a great personality. Call me a LOF, for all I care, but I have to call out BS like this.
This is an insult to Maloney, he was at least decent in some playoff games. Jeremy Lin vs. Scott Brooks is more fair comparison.
actually I think he did. even Lin's contract is a poison pill, Maloney's contract is probably the worst. we were still paying him until the last couple years. I think just in terms of contract, yes, Lin is better.
