Also it is fantastic to hear tracy is running freely and is looking great in the camp. as i said before if his knee dosent bother him, he'll be outstanding this year. the shoulder is not a huge issue.

I think Ron has a man crush on the Chuck Wagon. He has praised Chuck many instances before, even before the trade rumors started.

(Sorry Hayesfan-I guess you have competition now)

Chuck Hayes is the most underrated Rocket on this board.

I heard Ron Artest is gonna pull a Chad Johnson/Ocho Cinco stunt and put a new name on his jersey:

Exactly. thats why i cant believe we have members here whould would rather trade this guy just to makeup the numbers. they need to watch this guy play defense. his iq on defense is off the charts. watch the way he anticipates things on defense. the way he closesdown the baseline. his help defense. his ability to get in between his man and the basket at the exact right time to draw a charge. he also has lightning quick hands on defense.

Anyone who has played sort of basketball, will tell you what chuck brings and does for our ball club is immense.

Very much so. I flinch everytime I hear about trading him for a bag of peanuts. The man is not good offensively, but he does what he does very well.

Don't get me wrong, under the right circumstances I would trade Chuck, but not as quick as others here would.

You hit the nail on the head. Hayes is still the best post defender on this team...........by far. And he's much more than that. He can guard clear out to the 3 point line on top of having the massive strength to defend the post. The guy is incredibly undervalued.

Chucky Hayes should be traded along with Head to get under the luxury tax. The Rocks have too many 4s on the team now, he is expendable.

:) at least he's appreciated by those that matter. Ron has had to play against Chuck, no one else here has... so it's not a surprise that the masses who love offense think Hayes isn't worth keeping.

Those of us who know basketball can see all of the good and not be overwhelmed by the bad to understand his value.

So Hayes is the only guy on the team who has both the speed and the strength to match up with Artest. Good sign.

There's only one perimeter defender for the wings and he's injured.

Chuck Hayes is one of the two best post defenders on the team. Both he and Yao are great one on one defenders. However, they cant defend the same kind of people. Yao excels against players who are bulky and aren't as quick. Yao's weight and height gives such players problems. Hayes, otoh, is excellent against quick players because he moves his feet so well. His defensive stance also gives him a lower center of gravity, which coupled with his strength can give stronger opponents problems too. However, tall players with range give Hayes problems.

My theory has always been that the physical team usually has an edge in a playoff series, especially one that plays defense. Chuck Hayes is an important part of that equation. So i would really look long and hard at any trade involving him.

However, we have to remember that despite Hayes' excellence on defense, he is still a liability on the offensive end. If, he plays too many minutes for a high number of games, the pros he brings on the defense can be neutralized by the cons on the other end.

That is why, even though Hayes is valuable, I think his minutes should be watched. I consider him a specialist. Depending on what players the other team is fielding, he could play 30 minutes a game one night, while possibly not even come off the bench the following night. The worse off the post players on the other teams are, or the lesser damage they do on offense, the more Hayes minutes get reduced, and vice versa.

I think the coaching staff and Hayes understand this and that is why he has made comments about trying to be consistent. Let's face it, its not easy to be consistent when your minutes keep changing every night. Most players like to get into a game by game rhythm.

BTW, I predict that with Artest on board, Hayes will become even more formidable. The more talent talent you add on a team, the more players like Hayes and Mike Harris can free lance and go around doing their thing without too much attention being paid to them.

One last thing I wanna add. Hayes started getting his minutes with the Rockets a year too late.
