@rocketsjudoka https://m.startribune.com/uptown-apple-store-in-minneapolis-closes-permanently/572830252/ The store had yet to reopen since March when the state’s stay-at-home orders to stem the spread of the coronavirus pandemic forced many retail establishments to temporarily shutter. Following the killing of George Floyd in May, the Apple store was one of nearly 40 businesses near the corner that was damaged by rioters. While the damage did accelerate the timing of the closure, Apple was already in discussions to close the store before the pandemic and the riots, the company said.
apple retail stores rarely close permanently they are extremely profitable some rare circumstances have to happen Covid is worse in houston, but none of the stores are permanently closed @rocketsjudoka https://9to5mac.com/2020/10/22/apple-store-uptown-closed-permanently/ Apple Uptown in Minneapolis closed temporarily in March due to COVID-19, but unlike over 90% of Apple’s other stores in the US, it will not reopen when conditions improve. Apple confirmed to the Star Tribune that the store has closed permanently.
I don't know what's going on with the Apple Store but it is probably a combination of factors. Our free arts weekly City Pages just shut down suddenly because of a drop in advertising revenue so the local economy is taking a hit.
They said 40 stores had been vandalized In that area. Yes a couple businesses closed but the Apple store closing is rare as mentioned in the article. Also the video which is done by a tech blogger shows the difference. People don’t stop buying iPhones because of covid. my opinion is that it was a good excuse as well to close up. Apple doesn’t like loosing merchandise to theft. Minneapolis isn’t some poor town in Alabama. That shopping area had Apple, urban outfitters, north face and cb2, an expensive furniture store . not a place for poor people to shop Uptown @rocketsjudoka
There’s way more covid in Houston And Apple is not shutting down any of the stores permanently Galleria , highland , memorial city, woodlands, sugarland ..etc none of them this is a tech blogger posting this because it’s rare that they close an Apple store Apple stores are always located in wealthy shopping districts @rocketsjudoka
Depends where you're coming from. There are 4 other official Apple Stores in the Twin Cities. Rosedale, Ridgedale, Southdale, MOA
Yes Uptown is a tony shopping and nightlife district. It was hit during the riots even though it is at the other end of Lake Street from the Third Precinct. There also was several publicized incidents of violent crime there during the summer. There has been talk that it feels more dangerous there and friends of mine who live there say they feel nervous. That said the area took a huge hit from COVID-19 also. Not many people going out to drink and eat there or shop since March. So I think it's a combination of factors.
Not the whole street but it is hurting. Longtime restaurant night club Chino Latino that is down the street from the Apple Store just closed for good also.
You need to get ready to lick Trump's nuts on Election Night. He going to need your comfort. Everyone knows what you think....
A lot of those business were struggling even before Covid hit and many were already closing once their leases were up. Commercial rent in that area is extremely expensive and with a large decline in foot traffic due to Covid, those businesses weren't going to survive. The riots themselves probably didn't have a lot to do with it but if your storefront was damaged, it made the decision to shut down that much easier to make. Outdoor retail as a whole is crumbling in the Twin Cities during Covid so Uptown's issues aren't really unique but Uptown's really expensive rent made it harder for businesses to survive.
