Looks like we might have dodged a bullet. Under Morey, if he got his way, we would’ve had JVG right now. And I rather have Lucas, JVG was only my choice if he’d still be a hard ass and demanded more from Harden and others. No way he could’ve or would’ve gone to those tactics, they don’t work anymore. If he’d try that, Harden would’ve ran to Tilman and gotten him fired. Guaranteed. So would you really want a neutered version of JVG? Not me.

Stupid question, but what makes JVG the most "ready to win now" option? He's coached before, but he's a defensive-minded coach and his offenses haven't exactly been run-and-gun (understatement). If anything, it seemed like he'd be the most difficult to adapt to what Harden is used to (assuming that was one of the deciding factors).

Lucas hasnt coached in 18 years, we didnt dodge any kind of bullet we got hit with multiple bullets. You guys are acting like Harden is forcing any of these moves when we dont know thats whats going on.

I could go MDA conditioned on Tilman agreeing to spend some $$ to get a center. Not that atypical of a business negotiations unless the two have grown to dislike each other.
As far Silas goes, I am sort of afraid of the younger Bickerstaff hire after we let Mchale go-- not exactly our best hire.
I'm not sure that Westbrook and or Harden would respect a new young coach.

I feel like if Daryl wanted him, than I genuinely think he might have changed. Like maybe JVG could have been a good hire. But I know for a fact he is better than John Lucas.

No, I completely agree with this that you can't just dismiss him and say he would've been bad, but it's the reverse I don't get. What makes him the "right" choice? Even his coaching experience is almost 15 years ago. He's hung around the NBA, so that's a plus. I love JVG and if not Silas, I want him (out of the supposedly remaining choices). I just think he wants to control what's going on and somehow Tilman would try to influence (directly or indirectly) anything he'd be trying to do. Then, there's no guarantee he'd mesh with the guys on the team. Right now, I'm ready for something new and a reboot into a new Rockets generation.

Rather that than a JVG who can’t be himself. Lucas is tough mind you and he has rapport with the guys so he might stink up the place, but he also might bust up some heads while doing it. And just saying lucas over jvg, I still rather go with dozens of others over both of these guys! Silas is still my preference.

Tilman to Lucas: "Listen! I am going to promote you to be our head coach. What's more, it comes with a 2% raise!"

Just speaking in general. He would have to shake off the rust, no doubt, but at least this wouldn’t be his first rodeo. He checks off the boxes of immediately commanding the respect of the locker room, and someone that knows how to handle stars and big egos.

With assistant coaches being promoted to their first head coaching gig, there’s always the risk that they’ll be in over their head (think JB) or need time to adjust and earn that respect.

I’m not even saying I’m a JVG guy. I would actually prefer Silas, but it all leads back to the point that everyone else seems to echo — Lucas would be my last option.

If Morey wanted to hire him, I have no doubt the "neutered" JVG would be better than John Lucas.

This organization us a fn joke. Tillman is the poorest billionaire in the league. Insulting coaches with this incentive base crap. If they hire a coach who last coaching job was 18 years ago. Im done

Taking a small logical leap here, but this means JVG is likely uncomfortable about Morey's departure, and if that's true this means that coaching candidates did NOT in fact know Morey was stepping down as early as a day after the playoff exit, as Tilman spun it. Suspicion.

I mean obviously they fed us bullshit. Monte McNair would have been a perfect replacement and he just left. Instead we got the lawyer who helped close the sale of the team and worked his way into the FO. I’d be shocked if this was planned although I think Stone will be good.
