    Its tripped out people find the moviw so racy.. Im like you do realize its making fun of the stupidity of racism right?

    Its like a Western styled blacksplotation, instead of a pimp or Kung Flu blackslotation. Same concept as Super Fly but Western and Comedy

    https://nypost.com/2020/08/14/blazing-saddles-trigger-warning-shows-culture-has-gone-off-rails/

    excerpt:

    Ridiculous, unnecessary trigger warnings are getting plastered all over everything, Realtors are afraid to use the term “master bedroom.” But HBO Max seems to think we all live in kindergarten. What kind of melonhead doesn’t realize the purpose of the slurs in “Blazing Saddles” is to make the racists look bad? We don’t need this explained to us, unless we just arrived on this planet from a faraway star system or attended Oberlin.

    When director Mel Brooks brought in a hot young black comic named Richard Pryor to help punch up the script, Pryor vigorously added in more uses of the N-word to make the movie sharper as well as funnier. Pryor may be more responsible than any other person for neutralizing the slur’s power to wound. We’d probably all be better off if the word were restored to its place in the 1970s, when it was largely robbed of its mystical properties. Now that it’s unsayable, it’s become scary again.

    There’s a reason no comic ever starts his set by saying, “The following remarks are jokes and I will sometimes say things facetiously.” Nobody wants to have the comedy parameters laid out in advance, especially by a humor-challenged professor. HBO Max, which earlier this summer appended a similar trigger warning to “Gone with the Wind,” is not telling its subscribers anything they don’t already know, but it is giving them some useful thumb exercise as they all cringe and activate the skip function.

    Sure, HBO can decide and people can say HBO is wrong.
    Your answer doesn't contribute to the debate.

    I just don't understand what the big deal is. So HBO has a 3 minute intro telling viewers about the use of racial slurs in the movie and that upsets everyone?

    Is this really worthy of much debate?

    I just don't get why people are worried. I agree it's unnecessary and a waste of effort and money by HBO, but it's their money. I and most people I know would just hit the skip button I'm sure.

    There’s no skip button
    This isn’t Netflix

    Cause when you pay for something you expect a better product.
    Unnecessary three minute warnings instead of just the old school rate R is condescending
    And I know why they are doing it.
    I don’t want the politics in my movie watching.
    Most people who are going to watch Blazing Saddles understand what a comedy is and what the N word is.

    they are reaching for everything now.
    Am I going get a rating for Rocky IV? Will Russian Americans be offended that Drago killed Appollo ?

    this crap can go on forever. If they don’t stop I’m sure people are going to drop.
    They haven’t found anything as good as game of thrones and I’ll just watch stuff on amazon prime
    Jeff bezos doesn’t assume his customers are idiots

    Yeah, it's not like other industries don't continuously do CYA things to avoid lawsuits. (shrug)

    How do you feel about Disney and other content providers that just edit movies to meet their standards and not tell you?

    You don't have to subscribe to HBO you know. There are a dozen other ways to rent movies.

    I did because of shows I wanted to see.

    Disney has edited content for foreign releases.
    All the marvel stuff is the same as theater releases.

    at least I get 4K. HBO doesn’t give me 4K but a lecture on old movies that was not needed for the audience.

    Name me the other content providers and specific movies.
    Netflix
    Hulu
    Showtime
    Amazon prime
    @Os Trigonum

    I haven’t had issues with other providers thinking their viewers are sensitive idiots

    Exactly this. There is racist language. The show isn't canceled or removed or edited.

    It is rated R right? It isn't untrue that it has the racist language. It isn't untrue that they say that Eddie Murphy Raw has bad language or that Game of Thrones has nudity. They list what is potentially offensive for all of their programming.

    They don't think you are but are considerate enough to warn you in case you might be. Talk about making mountains out of molehills.

    Are they going to tell give me warning about Scarface that Al Pacino is not Cuban and Cuban immigrants going around blasting people with grenade launchers are fictional ?
    @Os Trigonum
    who gets to pick the movies and who gets to be offended ?

    what was wrong with the old system where we can just watch a movie we want without being lectured by some sucker from art history class ?

    It isn't a lecture and they've been warning about potentially offensive content for decades. All they do is make viewers aware. They don't lecture or advise against watching something. Information isn't harmful.

    These jackasses care more about putting a 3 minute intro for an old movie we already know has strong language.

    While these HBO punks don't even give us what we really want.

    Dolby Atmos
    Dolby Vision
    4K HDR
    @Invisible Fan
    What consumers are they targeting? Obviously not the ones with real tvs and sound systems.

    Why does Netflix and even Disney have these technical features and HBO doesn't?

    They messed up Game of Thrones and they are messing up HBO Max.
