Vote For Your Rockets All-Decade Team of the 1970s Celebrating 45 years of Houston Rockets Tradition I loved this write up about it: http://www.nba.com/rockets/fans/rockets_team__the_70s_2012_01_04.html These are the options to the survey found here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LM6KHN7
Sweet poll, but we already know who's gonna win. ^ That's a pretty good deal also, for lower level tix and an ice cold one. Heard Bill promoting it yesterday.
Five Star Thread Teach em 00RocketGirl about Rockets history ! Here's a good video for Calvin <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/TiC7AsVaGI0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Hayes was not on the Rockets for most of the 70s.. I am old enough to remember that team, and IMO the only answers are: Moses Rudy Calvin Lucas Newlin The rest were not impactual or not around all that much. DD
Here are the ClutchFans pages for each of those players... has their Houston Rocket career numbers and a photo. <a href="http://www.clutchfans.net/players/john_block/" title="" target="_blank">John Block</a> <a href="http://www.clutchfans.net/players/kevin_kunnert/" title="Kevin Kunnert" target="_blank">Kevin Kunnert</a> <a href="http://www.clutchfans.net/players/calvin_murphy/" title="Calvin Murphy" target="_blank">Calvin Murphy</a> <a href="http://www.clutchfans.net/players/elvin_hayes/" title="Elvin Hayes" target="_blank">Elvin Hayes</a> <a href="http://www.clutchfans.net/players/john_lucas/" title="John Lucas" target="_blank">John Lucas</a> <a href="http://www.clutchfans.net/players/mike_newlin/" title="Mike Newlin" target="_blank">Mike Newlin</a> <a href="http://www.clutchfans.net/players/don_kojis/" title="Don Kojis" target="_blank">Don Kojis</a> <a href="http://www.clutchfans.net/players/moses_malone/" title="Moses Malone" target="_blank">Moses Malone</a> <a href="http://www.clutchfans.net/players/rudy_tomjanovich/" title="Rudy Tomjanovich" target="_blank">Rudy Tomjanovich</a>
You know after looking at Clutch's links I think you can put Hayes or Lucas in there, they both played very well for a couple of years, I forgot we lost Lucas in the Rick Barry signing and he came back later, kind of like Hayes. DD
Thank you Clutch. We certainly don't want any uninformed voters. lol I'm really looking forward to the game on the 13th. I can't wait to see how they honor the 70s all-decade team that night. I am definitely planning on decking out in all 1970s Rockets gear for the occasion. This night will also be Chuck Hayes' first return to the Toyota Center, and I'm hoping they'll make a tribute video for him. This is a game to be at this season.

Moses Malone (center) Elvin Hayes (power forward) Calvin Murphy (shooting/point guard) Rudy Tomjanovich (small forward) Don Kojis (shooting guard)
It does not matter that he was not a Rocket for most of the 70s. He was the entire reason I became a Rockets fan. He played enough in the 70s for the Rockets and was the best PF of that decade and put up huge numbers while with the Rockets that have still not been matched. You have no choice but to remove Mike Newlin and insert Hayes or your picks absolutely do not count! The whole city of Houston new who Hayes was before there was a Houston Rockets. Hayes was the legend....period. Besides you have no Power Forward on your top five. Moses Big E Rudy Calvin Lucas Nothing else counts.
Who put that survey together? THose are some pretty bad choices. Block and Kojis barely played half a season in that decade for the Rockets? Even Big E and John Lucas were in-and-out as Rox in the decade and their best years were spent elsewhere. This franchise has a pattern of jettisoning its best players, i.e. those cited above along with Moses Malone and James Silas and Curtis Perry. Tried to do the same with Sam Cassell and Robert Horry. Here's a Wikipedia link to an all-time Rocket's roster: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houston_Rockets_all-time_roster I'd go with a lineup like this: 1-- Calvin Murphy 2-- Mike Newlin 3-- Rudy Tomjanovich 4-- Zaid Abdul-Aziz (Don Smith) 5-- Moses Malone Primary backups would be Robert Reid, Kevin Kunnert and.... ... and I grew up watching Elvin Hayes playing for UH at Delmar Fieldhouse but he only played 2 seasons in the 70s for the Rockets. I'm just protesting against guys who were only Rockets for a couple of years. I'm making a minimum 4-year requirement! It's a wonder that Houston didn't lose this franchise....
Damn dude. You just made me want to trade in my Chuck Taylors for some orthopedic shoes and a walker!
Exactly, sir. Elvin is why I became a Rockets fan, after San Diego took him with the first pick of the draft. He was an incredible player.
