Yeah, I get what you're saying Carl. I just disagree. I don't think we're at that stage yet. Aaron Gray is a serviceable backup, however you sign when you already have 14 players under contract. He's not a guy you create a roster spot for. He's not a guy you spend your cap space on, when you have much more glaring needs. Not at this stage. If we'd be contenders and in need for a backup center, than yes, go ahead and give him a look, but we aren't there yet. JMO though.
Aaron Gray is not the defensive center this team needs. He's a stiff. I'd rather let Thabeet play then give this fat dude 5 million per year.
I think you pick him up. I made this argument to a buddy today. The Rockets are obviously in need for a C, and Gray does not cripple the Rockets moving forward in the FA game for guys like Dwight and CP3. I would rather have Gray play minutes to Thabeet/Hill. Budinger/Morris Scola/Patterson Hayes/Gray What's wrong with that?
This. I'm not even that optimistic that Thabeet will turn out okay, but (1) you're already paying the guy, (2) he's obviously got some potential and (3) we've got capable enough options if Thabeet fails (Jordan Hill, Donatas Montieujunas, Chuck Hayes (hopefully) and even using Luis Scola or Patrick Patterson at the 5 for stretches). Bottom line: Unless you can find someone clearly better than Chuck Hayes, there's not much reason to add another below-average NBA center to this roster. It only assures that the young players will have their development incrementally stunted and that the vicious cycle of mediocrity will continue. Pass. Unless Hill and Thabeet get traded (in an actual deal that helps this team). Then, I'd maybe take a flier. Eh.
Haven't really seen him play but he's definitely getting overpaid so, if he doesn't pan out, we're gonna have to dump him somehow.
Kevin mchale can show gray how to use his limited athleticism to his benefit...since mchales game was based on athleticism
LOL I think Aaron Gray's extremely underrated on this board. He's not just a stiff.Yes he is stiff and he has zero to none quickness. You know who else is like that? Yao Ming. Granted this dude is like a lite version of the injured Yao Ming, and he doesn't have any jumpshot like what Yao does, but he's really smart, a willing passer and is able to clog the paint effectively and bother shooters, something which I think is our number 1 need. He also has some low post moves in his arsenal, so its not like he can't do anything on offense. His D is a lot like Battier, you don't really see any evidence of it except if you watch games since he doesn't block shots. I think he would be great pickup as a stopgap C for next season, as well as our backup C moving forward.
Hey fat boy.......come play with me for a while............ It was a song with a jamacian rapper singing it????? That is what gray reminds me of.
Marqus Blakely is that other guy on the Rockets roster nobody ever talk about. pretty sure him and cousin will get waived whenever the season finally begins.
The reason why we got guys like Brad Miller last year is because we were still counting on Yao. Now that we aren't, the only centers we should be going after are ones who are either starter quality, or at least with the potential of becoming(or return to) starter quality. I am fine with waiting around for that with Chuck as our placeholder for now. Because if we don't get one of those guys, the team won't realistically be going anywhere anyways, so what is the point of getting a backup for Chuck Hayes?
Wait. Because he played with Chris Paul he can only help to recruit Paul? You mean, just like Trevor Ariza could only help recruit Aaron Brooks to the Hornets, right?
