This thread The Trenches: Where our focus needs to be [Official] Patriots @ Texans 12/1/2013 Guessing you'd taken Clowney over Bridgewater with the 1st pick?
If it plays out like this I'd much rather go Mariota/Barr. Picking a RT with top a top 3 pick while we already have a Duane Brown is dumb
What makes you think they will win at Jacksonville and win at least one more game after that...??? I don't see two more wins on the schedule... And drafting a guy to be your RIGHT tackle with a top 5 pick is laughable... Especially when this team has so many needs...
with the way this season has transpired, right now we'd lose to the east dillon panthers . 1st pick is ours!
Everybody cheering for the Texans to lose, bear in mind, unlike in an individually dominated sport such as the NBA, draft position means virtually nothing in the NFL. The correlation between productive football players and when they are taken in the NFL draft is almost zilch. No reason to "tank". Who the hell wants to lose to Tennessee or Indianapolis anyway? Have more pride than that.
We are going to lose in Indi and Tennessee.. might as well look at the bright side of it. Meaningless feel good wins do nothing. Might as well be 2-14 and have better position for our future.
Props to you all wanting the number one pick, but I can't do it. I can't openly root for my team to lose no matter how many draft slots it drops us.
Did you miss the 2011 draft? Although JJ Watt clearly should have gone higher 8 perennial Pro Bowl caliber players were drafted in the first 16 picks...
QB's and DT's are apples and oranges. If you want a can't miss franchise QB this day and age you need to have a top 3 pick.
If you have the choice of every player on the board and you end up with one who doesn't produce, that's a reflection on your evaluation.
Solidified starting QBs right now (# pick overall they were selected at): Peyton Manning (#1) Tom Brady (#199) Drew Brees (#32) Matt Ryan (#3) Joe Flacco (#18) Cam Newton (#1) Andy Dalton (#35) Tony Romo (undrafted) Matthew Stafford (#1) Andrew Luck (#1) Alex Smith (#1) Ryan Tannehill (#8) Eli Manning (#1) Geno Smith (#39) Nick Foles (#88) Ben Roethlisberger (#11) Philip Rivers (#4) Colin Kaepernick (#36) Russell WIlson (#75) Robert Griffin III (#2) So I think it's a mixed bag. A lot of starting QBs in the NFL were a top 4 pick, but you can get value in the 2nd or 3rd round too, just depends on where QBs go.
That's pretty much the point. In the NFL, it's not nearly as much about where you're drafting as much as it is who is doing the drafting.
LOL @ perennial used in the context of a 2 year old draft. Take a one year (not to mention young) sample as your proof if it makes you feel better, I'll go with the 30+.
